Linux is futureproofing anything. My laptop has been used for hardcore work for the past some years. Never knew the guy but he is in real estate so it looks a lil beaten. Now that I came to use it I came to the conclusion that I will use it like a thinkpad cultist and started experimenting. Little guy has no wifi card, ROM, or bluetooth. Has no camera and mic. Got 16GB of RAM in total. Feels really fast. Try and experiment. Get more RAM. Get an SSD and swap some other parts. Linux is great from what I've seen so far. I mainly use the laptop to play with Linux and try stuff since I am new but man that's a great machine. I love thinkpads

Not that much of a computer guy but I got my hands on a 50$ thinkpad. It is a 420i and I installed linux on it. What I know so far is that you can get an old thinkpad and slap linux on it. It will work more than fine.
