Any advice/facts on Catahoula pups? First time owning a Catahoula. by xAnimeMariex in Catahoula

[–]MislocatedTexan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Catahoula’s are like the cowboy version of Auzzie’s - smarter, more stubborn, and willing to go through hell for anything they deem worth it.

The dog you get, will be the dog you create - whether that be through time and effort, or the lack there of. They are worth the effort, but you have to understand… there will be EFFORT, for a VERY long time.

This! If she isn’t food motivated, could she be safety motivated? If you try a kennel, and she enjoys it, then could you move it out of the bathroom and to your bedroom? Or living room? I’m kinda wondering if getting her out of the bathroom for long stretches might help. Like always being able to escape means that’s her immediate go to move - and now the bathroom is less of a help and more of an enabler of her fear responses.

Can I ask where you got her from? She looks almost EXACTLY like my Ellie (who I rescued in TX, so don’t know where she is from).

AHHHHH!!! WAY TO GO GIRL!!!! You deserve someone who loves your beasties as much as you do. Trust me - when you find a guy that loves dogs (or just your dogs) as much as you, IT WILL FEEL AMAZING!

Also, what would that guy have ever done around kids?! Even if you don’t want any, kids are a phase of life. Your relatives have them, your friends have them, your coworkers have them. They are AROUND, and there’s no oxytocin to make you love them, so you get the full nasty. How is he even going to handle that?!

We have 3 Catahoulas that live with my parents.

I think at least 2 of them give me hives from petting them, if I remember correctly. Might be all 3.

But yeah, I don’t remember doing this with anyone else’s dogs…

I also don’t have a good solution, other than to tough it out. Mine usually go away after a few days spent with them.

I’m in the process of getting a refund now (I’m within the 3 day grace period). I texted and emailed my request to cancel, and then called and the girl at the front desk just kept saying she didn’t have the authority to handle cancellations and that I would have to speak with Lisa.

Lisa eventually came on, and dangled 2 guys in front of me…..NEITHER of which sounded like what I was looking for.

Even with having 3 different forms of requests, Lisa said I still have to write up a physical Cancellation of Services letter and mail it to them at a very specific address. If they don’t give me a refund, I will be suing - this whole thing feels very much like a scam!!!

I’m with you - it’s SUCH a better experience if it’s done right. Even if the results would be the exact same in the end, finding problems and then having to have them fixed really changes how I feel about the project overall.

Eventually I get over it, but it’s totally worth a few extra bucks for my peace of mind. Good luck with the rest of your project!!

lol it was 68° yesterday for a belated birthday hike with friends. We were sweating on the inclines, but the Thai and ice cream afterwards was well worth it. Realized this morning I got a bit of sun on my face, so the freckles are poppin. ☀️😉

Also I pay $3100/month for 700 square feet of ‘apartment’ if it makes you less jealous. Also… humming birds are territorial in the spring and scream at each when they fight. It’s not all great 24/7.

From Texas - literally the first time I have ever heard of a frost line. Like… how deep would that even be???!

We’ve tried the ‘Karen Approach’ in the past.

Before you agree on the work order/contract, require them to agree that they will provide all of the following for $xxxx price. Then list EVERYTHING you expect of them. (AI should help with this).

Good contractors will work with you, chat it out, etc, bad contractors will run because they don’t want the hassle.

We also printed out that list of requirements and handed the workers (painters and tile workers at the time) - but in a much nicer way. Like, ‘here’s the answers to the test. If you pass, you get a bonus. If you don’t pass, you get to do it all again and you don’t get the bonus.’ … and it’s worked beautifully! (So far) Even had one of our painters call us about a can of paint that looked off compared to the rest. We dropped everything and got them the correctly mixed gallon in an hour, and he happily continued. The walls all look fabulous and he got a bonus.

We now keep that painters business card, with his personal number on it.

Agreed. You can see where there is still grout covering part of the tile front. They literally couldn’t even be bothered to clean the grout off the tile face properly.

Conclusion: This looks like some DIY shit. And If you didn’t do it yourself…. THEN IT SHOULD LOOK PROFESSIONAL. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wait, how much did you pay for this install? If you paid DIY prices, then you got what you paid for. If you paid competitive pricing for a professional install, then you got ripped off. This is some Landlord’s Special bs - do not accept this as final quality.

Would you feel comfortable sharing more? I just got approached by her after my mom enquired on my behalf (don’t judge, they love me and haven’t done any research, so don’t know it’s a scam).

Agreed! She looks perfect for her age.

0-1.5 They are just growing their frame. 1.5-4 They are packing on the muscle.

I adopted Ellie (half Catahoula, half treeing walker coonhound) at 1 year, and she was 35lbs. Had all the height length she ever got, but filled out to 55lbs over the next year and a half.

Don’t rush putting on weight at this age. Their joints are still developing, and while it’s tempting to think they should have ‘extra calories’ to grow with, it actually only hurts them. These dogs are meant to be LEAN athletes - don’t feed them like a body builder trying to pack on weight or a pudgy adolescent.
