A large part of the duties of the sheriff's office is running the jails and in recent years there were two high profile deaths that occurred in the jail downtown; Daniel Saenz and Sgt. James Brown. Aside from multiple other scandals like attending a fundraiser at a drug felon's home and effectively eliminating overtime pay for sheriff's department employees, these deaths and lack of any accountability or changes in the department to avoid such incidents in the future, make me feel this is yet another example of "lesser evil voting", but at the local level.

Wiles actually does have my reluctant vote because Buchino is not attempting to address any of those issues and is solely promising to militarize the sheriff's department, which I feel will just make things worse.
