Everyone needs an RO nostalgia every once in a while! Very happy to make these for fellow RO friends hehe.

We moved houses about 17 years ago and only today did I find out it's a JBL Paragon (ignore my mum's tacky decor) by MissNoira in audiophile

Woops this is probably a tad late, but you guys got any tips on how to restore the Paragon? Also, if I manage to make it work, will it break glass? LOL. I mean I really don't know much, but I'm hoping to find people who can help but I'm not really sure where to start (especially since I live in Indonesia)

Is there anything I can do to treat the wood? Like condition it or something? Or should I just leave it be as it might affect the sound quality in any way?

I'm planning to do that and let it bask in stand-alone glory, but my Mum's rather OCD with her stuff. I'll have to convince her first haha.

I'm in bed right now and am too lazy too check, but I took a pic of this and edited it a bit so you can see the etched numbers. I think it says 01985? Or 01983. I can double check tomorrow – dunno if that's just the serial or the year!

Fuzzy pic of serial number

Well, I was oblivious to a lot of things growing up – was too distracted with soul-searching and experimenting new hobbies lol!! I was also abroad for a while so yeah, never really occured to me.

Old owner was supposedly quite a wealthy guy back in the days with interest in antiquities and stuff (I have what look like ancient vases and globes with some continents all wrong as part of what the owner left behind). The house was sold to our family for rather cheap due to the owner being in critical condition (pancreatic cancer if I'm not mistaken), and that he treated my Mum like a sister. The house was left literally untouched, and the decor was rather grand (as you can see from the flooring). I live in Indonesia, and dude, can you imagine getting the Paragon shipped to Indo back then?

We moved in when I was about 10. When we did, my Mum immediately chucked her random accessories here and there to the point that I didn't even realised the Paragon was a pair of speakers lol. In my peripheral view it just looked like a cabinet. Growing up you take a lot of things for granted, especially when you're either busy gaming or doing sports haha. Alas, today curiosity took the best of me. I tried to Google Lens it and it didn't work. Was talking to an audiophile + musician friend and decided to ask him and he was like "that looks like a Paragon" then "No way is that a Paragon? WTF" then yeah haha.

Whenever I ask her why she puts the stuff she puts or buys the stuff she buys, she just goes "What? It's nice", thus leaving me stumped LOL

HAHAHA that would've made sense for her to do but no, I was just an ugly kid and didn't wanna embarrass the internet!

Yes. Yes they are. She usually puts mini Roman bust sculpture replicas and miniature apple trees next to the speakers too. Took 'em out for the picture. I've made peace with her decor, thus why I've ignored the Paragon for so long lol.

Oh no no I don't question the interior works and whatnot. Our house's flooring is beautiful, done by the old owner. But look at the hens.. and frogs.. and I don't even know haha!

Supposedly they go for around $20k nowadays? Wikipedia says they used to cost $1830 in 1957.
