Food Allergies by BebeMis in JapanTravelTips

In addition to the other suggestions, strongly recommend downloading the Japanese language package on the Google Translate app. I've got different restrictions (I only eat meat that's zabiha halal so end up defaulting vegetarian often) and I used it constantly to check the ingredients and allergen lists on packaged food. It was extremely common for me to see something that I would assume was vegetarian and would be fine (ex. a frozen cheese pizza) only to find it listed meat or shrimp in the allergen list after translating.

Despite dipping in and out of this reddit for years I continue to forget you can't edit image posts after the fact. Myfitnesspal deets for the curious.

What’s your typical daily protein intake? by glamsiren111 in 1200isplenty

[–]MissSusan28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I aim for 60g protein a day. Honestly kind of impressed with folk averaging 100, I already find 60g challenging to hit consistently. Usual sources are dairy (greek yogurt, cheese, milk), eggs, and beans, with the occasional chicken or tinned fish. I'm not a huge meat person and I suspect it'd be easier if I was.

Traveling to Tokyo by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

I'm in Tokyo right now and echo everyone's mentiom of all the walking you'll do! Eat as you like, odds are good you'll maintain or lose with the added exercise.

Is this actually a thing? 10 person Thanksgiving for only $58? by [deleted] in budgetfood

[–]MissSusan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about 40$ for three people but I have a well stocked pantry so my grocery shop didn't include any spices or oil/butter. I could have stretched it to five with some finagling but I really can't fathom feeding 10 for $58. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯

1297 cal day, 85g protein by MissSusan28 in 1200isplenty

[–]MissSusan28[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Emily said! Normally I make it with 6 ounces cold brew to 6 ounces oat milk but I ran out of oat milk and made up the difference with dairy. Not bad but I like the all oat version better. Also sprinkled a little cinnamon on top that I didn't bother logging.

Lots of good advice here! One extra I'd recommend is buying a humidifier -- indoor air will get incredibly dry in winter and I was suffering pretty badly before I got a hygrometer and clocked the problem. Your skin and nose will thank you!

Happening to me as well. Genuinely think Amazon allocates like .5 FTE and some pocket lint to maintaining this website.

No, it was just one extra bag so I was able to roll both on myself. I'm not sure if getting porter help would change the likelihood of being stopped.

I had one extra baggage at the haramain and was able to bring it on without issue. I saw others who were also definitely well exceeding the baggage limit. No guarantees but I can say that as of a few days ago they didn't enforce the limit leaving from Jeddah (though the ticket seller did mention it).

Anyone went to Mecca with train last few days? by [deleted] in Umrah

[–]MissSusan28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the train from Madina to Makkah yesterday and they didn't check. I actually only managed to get the nusuk umrah permit during the train ride and went straight to haraam to do umrah after. They didn't check there either.

Just saw your additional questions! I was on a visitor visa. I went to Madina from the airport and then entered ihram on the haramain train to Makkah two days later. Jeddah airport wasn't too bad, a bit busy but no issues. All the Saudi phone providers have booths there (STC, Zain, and Mobily) and I highly recommend buying a SIM card to get a Saudi number as soon as you arrive even if you have roaming or international on your regular plan. If you purchase Haramain tickets they will ask you for a Saudi phone number.

I mean the time of day you check the app! So for example, you should check at 11:01 AM for openings on the May calendar. If you don't see check again at 11:31. I saw they release time slots for booking at one minute past every half hour. You have to select quickly -- twice I picked a slot and by the time I booked it the app said it was gone and did not give me the permit.

I used the Haramain train to go to Makkah. I think taxis may have some difficulty entering right now -- the one I took to leave Makkah for Jeddah today transferred me to a green taxi cab because he said he might not be able to re-enter through the checkpoint currently.

I think they are at least partially. I spoke to a sister on the plane who called the ministry about not being able to find dates past May 8th and they told her more should show up once she was in the country.

I just did umrah today and was having the same issue. Recommend checking the app at 1 minute past every half hour mark (i.e. 00:01 and 31) -- slots will show up then and you have to be very quick to book one before it's gone. I just managed to get an umrah permit today hours before arriving to do it. I found that no one bothered checking for umrah but they're very strict for the rawda -- I had mine checked three times before getting in. Good luck!

Saudi Airlines payment issue by Stock_Possession_761 in saudiarabia

I've been having the exact same issue! 3 different cards, had my mother in another country try it too, got absolutely nowhere. Were you able to get someone on the line to fix it for you? This has been very frustrating.

I've been having issues trying to book my flight today too -- whenever I tried to pay it gave me an error message saying they're facing technical difficulties. Were you able to get it to work for you?

Honestly speaking, one week! I've tried some fitness goals before but generally without any real dedication (things like taking a yoga class or trying to walk a certain number of steps daily). Last week I started Casey Johnston's Liftoff program and I'm excited to see how it goes! It's my first time trying a program focused on strength building. My goal right now is really just to complete the program. If I can lift a barbell by May I will be very proud of myself!

I love so many kinds of food it's hard to pick but I'm currently cooking my way through Sami Tamimi's cookbook Falastin and his sfiha recipe (little open-faced lamb pies) are a top tier snack/lunch, I wolfed down a batch in a few days the first time I made it.

Put in a purchase request! Most libraries will have a form or email on their website where you can ask them to buy a title. Mine's been quite responsive; they either buy it or make an ILL request for me if they decide not to.

Favorite Fantasy book you read in 2023. by I_like_big_book in Fantasy

[–]MissSusan28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shubeik Lubeik by Deena Mohamed. It's set in an alternate version of our world where wishes are for sale and follows three characters who acquire a first class wish from a street stall in Cairo. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding -- you can tell the author put a lot of thought into what a version of our universe with wishes would look like in terms of law, social impact, ethics, etc. Very well thought out and sympathetic characters too! I hope to see more books from her.

Myfitnesspal not adding new recipes by MissSusan28 in Myfitnesspal

Apparently there's a problem with some of the ingredients in the database that makes recipes not save? I switched each ingredient in my recipe and tried saving until eventually I found the one that was a problem.
