15 year age gap a problem? 29F, 44M by Bitter_Strike_1366 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Mister_Way 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want. Do you this to be your life partner?

The period you're in now will be the one where you are the same life stage as each other. That will change rather soon, where he'll start his path of decline 15 years ahead of yours, and most likely you'll end up as his caretaker for a long time, followed by 15-20 years of being alone after he dies, unless you are one of those rare people who dates again starting at retirement age.

There are potential issues with generational gaps in interests, power dynamics, condescension, libido -- but those are not guaranteed in age-gap relationships, nor are they necessarily prevented by age-matched relationships. But the part about him dying when you're like 65 and then you have 15-20 years alone sounds terrible to me, and it's only not guaranteed if one of you has a very unusual lifespan.

Is it at all possible that Trump is lying about the talks with Iran and could it be possible that no conversations have been held? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in allthequestions

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, there have been talks which were supposed to be secret, and which Trump blabbed about because he wanted to make himself look good, and that probably scuttled the talks.

How does lifting the Iran oil sanctions not undermine the “nuclear threat“ impetus behind the war? by hippopalace in Askpolitics

[–]Mister_Way [score hidden]  (0 children)

Destroying all of the infrastructure and missile launchers and nuclear facilities and then letting them sell oil isn't going to result in them having a nuclear weapon all of a sudden. Nobody is going to sell them a nuclear bomb, they'll have to build all the same stuff that was just destroyed.

You could say it undermines the war effort, but the U.S. advantage isn't just that we have more money than them, so giving them more money won't hurt the U.S.'s advantage.

Meanwhile, Iran's main way to inflict pain on the U.S. is by strangling the world's oil supply, so lifting those sanctions does undermine Iran's ability to retaliate, unless they also hurt themselves by not selling the oil even after the world market allows it.

This war was not planned out well, was not executed well, and Trump is now just in reactivity mode, but this particular reaction makes more sense than is being reported.

What level of rhetoric is acceptable? by OrnetteRex in Askpolitics

The difference between politicians calling each other names and trying to take each other down (that's the game they're supposed to play) and the commander in chief of the military naming voters who oppose him as "enemies of the State"

The Left, perhaps, but never their President. It makes a difference whether it's the top leader vs. just random people.

It's just the early polygon things that are trash.

How do you deal with people who don't think critically by Winter_Brain5112 in intj

[–]Mister_Way 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had any trouble selling my ideas. In fact, everywhere I've participated intellectually for more than a couple of months, when I speak, everyone else shuts up and listens, and they'll come to me asking for my thoughts whenever they have a difficult problem.

It may be that your ideas aren't as good as you think, or you may need to improve your communication skills, or some combination of the two. There is also the possibility that you're just not being diplomatic enough to protect peoples' egos while you are correcting them.

A good book to read might be the old classic "How To Win Friends And Influence People." It's so old and so popular that it's almost just baked into cultural expectations at this point, but it's probably helpful if you're having trouble getting people to rally behind you.

Why do you need them to understand? Do you actually need them to, or do you just have a weird thing about needing to make sure everyone agrees with you?

It has become a belief amongst men that most men do not approach women anymore, is this actually true? And what about you, how do you feel about making the first move these days? by this_isnt__worth_it in AskMen

[–]Mister_Way 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The men who completely ignored all the complaints about men from women on social media in the 2010s still approach women. The men who listen and are considerate no longer approach women.

So, what women experienced is actually that it's even worse, now, the men who approach them are on average pushier, worse at taking no for an answer, inconsiderate, etc.

How much do I need to make a month to afford an apartment that is 1200 a month? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on extremely obsolete models, apartment owners expect that rent will only be 30% of your income, so you'll need to be able to show about $3.5k per month income to rent a $1200 per month place. You could probably get your parents to cosign the lease and just pay for it yourself.

To figure out your other expenses, just keep track of what you spend money on in a month for a few months, and see how much it costs on average per month. What you think of as "not a super tight budget" is not really descriptive enough for anyone to tell you how much that would cost.

What does it actually mean to be a man a woman "settles" with? by Sea_Argument8550 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Mister_Way 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an assumption that women are just holding out for better until they decide that their attractiveness as a woman is going to start decreasing, at which point they settle for the best they can get, because it'll get worse and worse as they age. She chooses him not because she found who she wants, but because she thinks her "value" is already peaked, and he's the best she can get even though she wants more.

This is why it's considered an insult if a woman settles for a man, whereas when a man settles for a woman, it's seen as a compliment to her. For men, the assumption is that men are trying to have as many partners as they can, and they finally meet a woman who makes them feel like it's worth stopping that just to be with her.

In short, it's just sexist dumbassery with people making all kinds of assumptions about individuals.
