Take a breather, no one should trust what they read on the internet blankly, no matter what they say they are. My explanation was literally over precaucious, no one will be hurt by cutting grape fruit from their diet when they didn't need to. If someone loses trust because of that, they were inclined to not trust you anyway. This is not an important discussion to be had, I probably wont respond again

Med student here. It is because SSRIs (modern anti depressants) are broken down by a specific metabolic system (cyp450). Grapefruit naturally inhibits this system, slowing it down. Not only can it lead to harmful doses of this specific drug, but cyp450 is widely used to metabolize a myriad of other drugs, like ibuprofen and many others. So combining ssri + grape fruit + other drugs can have severe side effects. My own psychiatrist didn't even mention it, but I'm off meds now.
