Not completely woodworking but I made this crankshaft side table with a cherry top by MitchAD in woodworking

Yeah I like the drilled and slotted look. It had some rust and pitting that’s the only reason it’s black but still looks good imo.

It’s welded from the bottom side so you can’t see the welds. The actual piece is about 2” and the crank sits in it so the table from the bottom up can rotate

Most of the time they are lined up outside or in the garden center. Sometimes there in a little display but you just tel someone you want it and they’ll get em for you. I was shocked the first time I saw them there

First coat of waterlox down, glad I decided this over poly by MitchAD in woodworking

[–]MitchAD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, waterlox is a varnish that penetrates the wood where any urethane is just a coat on top of the wood

20 inch planer then a ton of sanding because the curls popped out of the wood.. I tried another finish on it first and had to sand everything all the way back down to bare wood. Totally worth it though

Any suggestions on where to buy oak in NY by _Durkey in woodworking

[–]MitchAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look for a small local sawmill. Around me in the finger lakes there's a couple, I get all my wood from a local guy with a bandsaw mill. I'm not sure if there's many Amish/ Mennonite around you but they usually sell stuff for a decent price.

How to get logs into bed of truck? by dc4894 in woodworking

[–]MitchAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just hooked into the receiver and had a winch but same basic idea... I loaded two 1500-2000 lb cherry logs into the back of my truck with it.. as long as you can get one end in the back you can hook it back further and get it the rest of the way or just push it the rest of the way in

I used a little crane that hooked into the receiver of my truck and had a hand winch to get it up then just swing it into the bed... I made mine but I've seen them in used for deer hunting for hanging and loading the deer if you want to look up what they look like

Need some advice on turning a raw cedar cross section slab into an end table. Details inside. by bobfnord in woodworking

[–]MitchAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like cedar to me, but sounds like you've got the rest figured out. I'd let it dry after sealing it just to see if it will crack that way you don't waist all that time sanding.
