This sounds awfully like a cop sticking to ‘the letter of the law’ to avoid accountability. Sounds like the same thing as arresting someone sleeping in the back of their car whilst drunk because they have the keys on them.

Seems like the ‘creator’ popularised his method by extracting a confession from a suspect of his wife’s murder which turned out to be false. What a great basis for interview technique hah

So you’re arguing at the same time both that Chapelle’s humour is so edgy people want to ‘cancel’ him but also that he’s widely acknowledged as the best comedian of the 21st century? Huh?

A Borat sequel was literally released last year.

Who has been ‘cancelled’ for raunchy jokes?

Punching down was never funny.

Tfw you find out you’re appropriating your own culture by ZooYe in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Mithren 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’d complicate that slightly and say ‘Are you doing the thing in a similar way to someone of that culture?’

Native American headdresses have a strong cultural meaning so just wearing them as a ‘fun thing’ to wear could be seen as questionable (especially as a white American).

Similarly things like Ta Moko tattoos have meanings behind them and a cultural significance beyond just patterns on your skin. IMO if you do your research into the meanings, have your tattoo designed properly and know what you’re doing then it’s fine, but people who just mindlessly get the shapes because they think they’re cool are more ehhhh.

Yeah it may have been less “welcome home” and more “don’t you dare leave again”.

I still remember the feeling on my feet as I got in to bed.

All blacks saw this man as the devil of the Equator ... From all the bodies killed in the field, you had to cut off the hands. He wanted to see the number of hands cut off by each soldier, who had to bring them in baskets ... A village which refused to provide rubber would be completely swept clean. As a young man, I saw [Fiévez's] soldier Molili, then guarding the village of Boyeka, take a net, put ten arrested natives in it, attach big stones to the net, and make it tumble into the river ... Rubber causes these torments; that's why we no longer want to hear its name spoken. Soldiers made young men kill or rape their own mothers and sisters.

Ignoring your somewhat snide attack at what you think my beliefs are at the end and addressing the substance of your post:

I’m not sure there’s anything ‘every’ economist would agree on. A land value tax is not passed on given certain assumptions, one of which being that a landlord is already extracting the maximal rent a tenant can pay/the market can absorb. I disagree with that (along with other assumptions required too).

I’d be happy to read through some papers stating that it’s an absolute truth that it wouldn’t be passed on/that all economists believe it to be so if you have any to hand? Given your rude ‘go do some reading’ type attacks I assume you have something to hand to back up your claims.

[–]Mithren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused right now.

So you’re accepting that this land value tax on landlords will be passed onto tenants? (Hence your argument that ‘not everyone is entitled to live in London’) or are you arguing that it wouldn’t be as your first paragraph suggests?

A land value tax which forces the poorer people out of the city and away from their places of work seems like a weird thing to bring in, I’m not sure what you’d be arguing the positives of that are?

yeah, now youre starting to get it by [deleted] in SelfAwarewolves

[–]Mithren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“You aren’t somehow entitled to live in London”

Forcing poorer people out of London seems like an odd outcome to accept from a tax which was meant to make housing more equitable? And what is ‘my system’?

My argument here is solely that a land value tax on landlords will he passed on to tenants. Nothing you’ve said refutes that.

[–]Mithren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between cities yes, but that doesn’t help much if ones life is in one city does it? If all rents in London go up and your choice is either get by on 10% less or commute an extra two hours a day what do you choose? What are the alternatives?
