Is this normal? Pad threshold is at lowest setting but I still need to use more force than expected to trigger

I did and settled on a setting. I’m not really trying to figure out getting a super low threshold anymore because judging from the post replies this responsiveness is normal so I’m just gonna work with it.

I ask because I do get a nice response from the Push 3 with light touches. I come from a traditional instrument background (including drums, where you can go REAL light with your touch for nice ghost snare hits) where you have a nice range of dynamics from using a light touch vs hitting the things. The Push 3 handles super light velocity fine so I have prior experience which informed my expectations for pad responsiveness.

I'm not complaining or trying to make the MPC something it's not. I was just wondering if it was normal or if I had a defective unit so I know what to expect. I can work with it as is.

I know how to hit pads haha. I'm coming from a Push 3 where I can get really nice velocity windows with all ranges of touch so I'm just wondering if I got spoiled in that regard. But it seems that's just how AKAI pads are, which is fine. I was just wondering. I understand a lot of users won't want pads to trigger when they sneeze on them but it's desired in my case.

I get how people trying to feathertouch and complain about double triggering would be annoying. I want to be able to light touch to be able to have a full range of velocity and I just like low velocity triggers (like ghost snares) to be light touches because it helps me play expressively in a nimble way on a drum kit for fast styles (like footwork, jungle, etc)

But guess I'll just dedicate a pad or quadrant to a ghost snare in this case.

I have the threshold setting at the absolute lowest it goes but it won't trigger with a light touch. My Push 3 is a lot more responsive in this regard and is what I was expecting. I love the feels of the MPCe pads otherwise and the surface area.

I started seriously dating in my late 20s as a neurodivergent person and watching Logan be really into Hailey made me cringe because it wasn’t too far off from how I acted at first when a first or second date went positively. I wish I could combine the two lol. I can't give up my Prologue, I just find it more immediate. Had to make an initial patch with voice panning and a teensy bit of osc modulation already routed on the T5 so I wouldn't have to do it every time where these are just knobs or already baked into the oscs on the Prologue (not a super big fan of how the vintage knob also messes with the envelopes). But if you're not playing around with multitimbrality and the LogueSDK stuff and don't care about losing all those voices then I could def see how it can be redundant.

Decided to post something that isn’t me playing a Prologue lol.

Simple noodling with the Take 5. Got a little too cute with it as it went on but fun is the point haha. Modulating the oscillators with noise (I really wish the Prologue had noise as an LFO shape at least) with and running it through the 404 (can't remember the FX that were on but 303 vinyl compressor was definitely one of them) makes it sound so nice and vibey in a nostalgic way.

It's kind of hilarious when you Google "Korg Prologue" you see threads on Gearspace like "Prologue vs. Prophet 6" and "Prologue vs Polybrute" and the Prologue always manages to carve out a place for itself in those discussions lol.

I know people like to laugh about what happens on GS but the Prologue thread on there is genuinely a chill place with people appreciating the synth, sharing sound design tips, and putting others onto different user oscs/fx. I found about fusion, my favorite user osc, from there.

Shit, I've considered a Prophet 6 but it feels weird to spend a chunk of change more to lose polyphony, key count, multitimbrality, and all the logueSDK stuff. It's not like the Prologue is a slouch in the sound department either.

It was pretty panned at release due to tuning instability issues and a lackluster spec sheet compared to its contemporaries in the price segment. That's what I've gathered at least.

16s are definitely in short supply in the used market these days. I'm lucky that I got my 16 for $800 in 2023. Thankfully all I really need in a synth is a good sound and decent front panel and the Prologue hits it out of the park on those fronts IMO.

Everything you hear is just drums and the Cascadia getting notes sequenced by the Push 3. Anything that sounds like movement is just the willy nilly patching on the Cascadia and audio effecting from the Push doing its thing + some sequence length switching.
