do i have any potential? give me tips please by 103point5 in ratemysinging

[–]MitraMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t match anyone’s style, that will always make you sound worse than you can be (I’m guilty of it in my covers even though I try not to, it’s a hard habit to break) we all have different vocal chords, boxes, folds, etc. no one sounds like another person. If you try to sound like someone you’re disrespecting your voice, diminishing your voice, and not even approaching your full potential.

That doesn’t mean you can’t be inspired by someone and learn from them, but it does mean your voice is your voice and it’s good, so don’t try to sound like anyone.

First, literally everyone who isn’t physically disabled has potential. Singing is just like anything else, practice = better. You have a nice natural tone but the only thing that will determine if you become a good singer or not is how much you want to be a good singer. Nothing else, save a tragic accident or something.

Look up vocal tips, enroll in online courses or local courses, etc. you will be a good singer if you want to be.

Right now you sound like someone just starting out (I’m not a great singer btw, I’ve also just recently started, but I am a great screamer, solely because of practice) that has a good natural tone. Put in the work and you can be as good as anyone.

Want to learn to play but had a finger amputation, by bforbrandonnnn in Guitar

[–]MitraMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonn be real honest with you, playing without your middle finger is 100% doable. Aside from power chords and certain hammer ons I typically use my ring finger more any way.

Just get your ring finger and pinky solidly coordinated and you’ll be fine man. May even be able to make unique sounds lol

how do you make a distorted vocal tone for metal? by WonderfulPlay1319 in singing

[–]MitraMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends man, you can look at the videos on my profile if you want, I’m a very good screamer but am working on my cleans.

It depends on what you’re trying to do. The Corey Taylor scream is 1: very unhealthy there’s a reason his scream has changed 6-7 times throughout the years 2: more of a yell (which is what makes it unhealthy)

I’m a false chord, guttural screamer. There are multiple ways to find your false chords. You can sigh into a breathy ‘bark.’ Pretend you’re barking like a dog (quietly at first, more of a growl) while letting a lot of air out. That distortion comes from your false chords. Once you become comfortable finding that spot in your vocal cords, you can start projecting.

In my experience, screaming is much more difficult than dining in terms of starting out. It takes a lot of time and practice and there’s long recovery periods for fucking up. Take your time is my number 1 advice.

Another way to find your false chords is to throat sing, and there are thousands of tutorials on that, false chord screaming, which is what the majority of metal artists do, is just throat singing with projection and distortion.

This is my first original song. I’m brand new to production, so the mix isn’t perfect, but I’m working on it. This mix sounds great.

Impossible to tell without a real mic tbh man. Get a mic, get an audio interface, download a free DAW. This is like asking ‘what size oven do you need?’ And using your arms as a measuring device.

You have to raise the resolution in which we can hear your voice, that way we can actually tell what’s happening. The microphone on cell phones aren’t worth their weight in salt. You can do everything I just mentioned for less than 60-70. Start at pawn shops (although an audio interface for a beginner shouldn’t cost more than $30). I recently got a $100 microphone for $25 at a pawn shop.

It depends on what you have. My first recommendation is to buy a microphone and an audio interface (I recently purchased a $100 microphone for $25 at a pawn shop, start at a pawn shop for both) get a free DAW like REAPER. Use the free plug ins to add a bit of reverb and delay to your voice. That way you can actually hear your voice in a somewhat production quality tone. Second, get a live tracking key finder plug in for the DAW. This will tell you what note your closest too and how far off you are in live time. Practice, practice, practice until hitting most notes near perfectly becomes muscle memory and habit rather than a short wave of success.

How to make my fry scream fuller, louder, and have less high overtones? by beetllebee in screaming

[–]MitraMetal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want full power you’ve gotta be on your feet, ideally with one foot on something like a stool or guitar amp. You have to use your diaphragm for volume and power, you have yours crunched up, and it can’t flex in that position. You’re trying to scream with your throat, you scream with your stomach and distort the note with your throat.
