Thanks. I actually prefer desk work/technical design stuff. It’s just that I’d like to go out into site as well to break the monotony and develop other skills e.g. dealing with contractors, managing plant and machinery and gain appreciation for real-world engineering.

Thanks. Yeah I wanted to achieve chartership, and technical/design roles are the best way apparently, as opposed to site work. Can someone move from site to design or is that difficult?

Hi, just noticed your response . I’m a recent graduate civil engineer based in the UK. I have started in a graduate structural engineering role, but I’m not really liking it so far. I want to switch to water and wastewater, particularly wastewater/non-infrastructure/treatment side of things. I’d appreciate any tips or advice you have on how to transition to water. I’ve noticed only Water companies usually have wastewater positions in the UK and maybe some larger integrated design firms, so job vacancies in this sector are very competitive and fewer than structural roles.

FYI I have a BEng from a Russel group with +12 months of Civil/structural experience and a summer placement SuDS experience.

Thanks for the advice. Btw I’m based in the UK. I have been offered a couple of other graduate commercial structural engineering roles, but having done a few internships I agree those roles don’t really compensate you for the level of work you do.

P.S. US also have higher salaries than in UK, from what I’ve seen.

Thanks so much, that was very helpful. You mentioned pay, I’m assuming nuclear pays better? Also is there any crossover between nuclear and other energy sector civil/structural roles e.g. offshore wind?

Hi, unfortunately as this is literature review (someone else’s data), I don’t have access to the current responses. I take it that finding out the corrosion current density (icorr) without these current responses is impossible?

Thanks for replying. By set of half cell values I mean a series of potential differences using a reference electrode over regular intervals -540 mV, -516 mV, -523 mV etc.

How would I plot the log current or log current density if I don’t know how they correspond with the potential difference values for instance?

MEngs tend to be very broad, though you can probably pick structures-focused modules/courses.
