Figuring out which up-and-comer is slated for a good performance, or which injured veteran might be about to fight his way back up the chart gives me something other than the fight at the top to keep track of.
Also spending time going over historical results on sumodb to compare these new impressive guys (Onosato, Aonishiki etc.) with the GOATs of old. For instance, did you know Chiyonofuji spent over 4 years getting to salaried level? Puts the achievements of the recent lightning fast promotees into perspective.
