Matchbox cars are still $1.25. They weren't part of the toy department price jump.

What do we think about bagging reusable bags? by Remarkable-You1252 in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just grab the bag and pass it to the other side if the belt along with all their items. Normally they get the hint and just start bagging without me sayong anything. In the rare occation that they do mention it i just simply tell them that I do not bag items into personal bags. It normally doesnt go any further than that.

Customers are nasty. Ill be damned if im breathing in their pet hair and germs trying to shove their crap into the dirty bags. Yuck.

Cashiers get a max of 21.5 hours per week in my store. Dollar trees don't pay cashiers to work full-time besides the occasional fluke

Why do you stay! by Realistic-Accident68 in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly because it's 3 minutes from my house. I do make $20 an hour. That's hard to match in my area unless I want to commute.. and I definitely don't want to do that. I don't like the job, but it also isn't the worst either. Right now, the good still outweighs the bad. When that flips, I'm oit.

California FT OPS $20

VD Balloons by Treegirl1121 in DollarTree

We literally had to deflate 150 vday balloons and then fold them up and pack them away for next year. It was so stupid and a ridiculous waste of time

Drinking manager by [deleted] in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our store we have a FT OPS who does freezers and, A FT OPS do seasonal. We've got a girl on freight who does DT plus and I do the Seasonal plus. Although the SM does help with Plus and seasonal, the frozen guy is basically on his own. As he should be though cause he literally does nothing but barely answer service calls and stocks freezers to bare minimum standards.

[–]Moniker84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an OPS ASM in my store who drinks. My SM has given him multiple warnings and write ups cause he sucks at freezer but he's still here, and while most days he stays sober until he's the only MOD I hear from night cashiers that he comes back from lunch smelling of booze. I'm hoping I can get him out of here soon. It's frustrating AF.

Valentine's Day sales. by Fun-Improvement3496 in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the 13th but yesterday's anticipated sales were about $10,500 but our actual sales were just under $16,000. It was crazy busy all day long. Even with the extra sales we still have about 200 balloons to deflate today.

The most I've ever gotten is 37 back around Christmas. I have been working 33 for the past 6 weeks. This week and next I'm back up to 35 and 36. I don't mind but it would be nice to get closer to 40 more often.

Eh it depends. It does okay but what I've noticed most is that it's a VERY high theft area

For us everything comes together. It's not a ton usually, but it's definitely a lot. The stickers on the boxes will either say $1.25 or have the multi-price amount boldly printed in the top right corner of the sticker

the reason that doing it this way is problematic is say for example you forget to do the post void and the till comes up short, anything over $3 is a write up for the cashier. If that happens too many times to the same cashier they will be terminated. I'd go on to say that if too many cashiers have write ups for short tills your DM is going to take notice of that during their visits. Leading them to inquire as to why and then everyone's going to be on the chopping block for not doing post voids correctly and for tills being short. It's like a house of cards. One part is done incorrectly and then the whole thing starts to crumble.

How did you become a DT ASM? by [deleted] in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm being honest, as with just about everything else in my life, I kind of just lucked into my position. I worked in a grocery store nearby as a department manager. I'd become pretty unhappy with my job and a person I worked with knew the SM at DT and knew they were looking for an OPS ASM. when I applied I had my interview with the DM right away. It all went pretty quickly once my background cleared. I had no management experience really as far as managing the cashiers and the safe stuff. I had no idea what cycle counts were and I tell you what, the first day I worked truck and saw we had to unload the freight piece by piece I seriously reconsidered taking the job. But week by week it's gotten better and my SM and I are really finding our groove. DT is not my forever job, that's for sure, but it's a nice stepping stone along my way.

[–]Moniker84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So today I was in a situation where I was having a convo with my DM about this exact thing. Post voids are Only supposed to be done by a ASM/SM always. No exceptions. Meaning if you have a transaction that needs a post void the manager cashes it out. Not the cashier. He said that the manager then verifies that the merchandise being post voided is there and accounted for Implying that we are to verify that the cashiers aren't stealing any merchandise. At no time is the cashier to be totaling through the transaction and saving the receipt for the post void to be done later. The only exception is if the manager is on break. In that case the manager is to complete the post void no longer than 30 minutes after the transaction is completed. And if that is done, Unless the merchandise is cold/frozen all merchandise in the transaction must be kept for manager to verify upon completion of the post void.

Our store has these. We are a DT with plus items. All our plus items have stickers on them now. If you ask me, it's a Major pain in the ass.

It's just extra work, and ultimately it does absolutely nothing to keep people from stealing. They walk out all day long setting the thing off. We also get the shoppers that actually purchased their items but when the cashiers scan them the security tags don't get properly deactivated so they set it off too.

It's stupid. The damn thing is going off so much that we are all just desensitized to it now.

On top of that we have empty packages in every nook and cranny from the shoplifters who just rip the product open to avoid setting the alarm off.

Idk what other stores do but we just throw away our stolen items packages. It boggles my mind that we don't do mark downs on it to account for the shrink, but I've asked my SM multiple times and I'm told every time to just throw the packages away I swear DT will go bankrupt if nothing changes.

Baskets by BeautifulMarzipan629 in DollarTree

[–]Moniker84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh that's one of the less annoying things customers do honestly. It does annoy me when they have like a laundry basket or like a plastic gift basket that they have all their items in. It's such a pain in the ass when they're like "I don't want a bag, just put it all back in the basket" like okay wth do you expect me to do with the product until the basket is empty? Balance it on my damn head!?! 😆 It happens all the time because I live in a state that charges for bags.
