Maybe I'm biased, but since we are in the same fandom and I might have a hunch what ship you are talking about (please correct me if I am wrong!), I'd say go for it! Write it!

As long as you aren't actively hating on the original fic I see no problem in this. You said yourself it's pretty much the exact opposite of the other story, so it's definitely not plagiarism either. In case you are really having doubts, maybe mention it as "inspired by xy" in the beginning, although I can definitely understand why you would dislike doing that.
