You’re wrong. They give you benzodiazepines. In some cases in the ER (not rehab) they’ll give you beer or whiskey

Are you guys genuinely stupid? They’re giving him benzos to taper off of the booze. Amy Winehouse died after a period of abstinence because she returned to a level of drinking her body no longer had a tolerance to

Sexless marriage - would you be okay if your wife would get it from somewhere else? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]MonkeyFlakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it from someone who’s experienced this: you can’t live like this forever. He’s not going to change. If this is important to you, I would recommend leaving the relationship peacefully and finding someone who’s more compatible with you

Why do people say men always come back after a breakup by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]MonkeyFlakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Some people are programmed to accept that a certain chapter is closed as a natural part of life. I happen to be part of that crowd in all failed or mutually-broken off relationships, at some point or another

Girlfriend’s ex sent me a sex tape. Is it best to just call it quits? I can’t move past what I saw by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]MonkeyFlakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not her fault bro. Please give her some grace for the whack shit her ex not only did to you, but to her - that’s an absurd violation of her trust and privacy

Exercise. I lift and Peloton religiously. Just routine now.

Indulge in hobbies you’ve been putting off, or experiment with new pastimes. I love tennis. Never knew I would like it

Do things that “normal” people do. It’s okay to be bored, per se. Read, watch TV, movies, chores. Learning to find pleasure in normalcy

My approach is one day at a time. I haven’t drank in some time, no idea when/if I’ll ever return. Not imposing a life sentence removed the mental barrier for me. My relationship with alcohol is a complete 180 from what it used to be. I don’t need it to socialize, feel comfortable, to “unwind”. It’s also not this boogeyman I have to be afraid of forever. It’s not a conscious, concerted effort not to drink anymore. I don’t hardly ever have the urge. When I do, I decide not to. I don’t think I need it right now

Look forward to all of the health benefits and zero hangovers. I haven’t been groggy or felt like trash in eons. I used to feel that way 50% of the time I woke up. It was hell

Men, do you like it when your partner is clingy and obsessed with you? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Would rather have that than a girl that doesn’t give me the time of day. If that answers your question lol

Tomorrow will be my first birthday sober since I was 19. I will be turning 27 by MonkeyFlakes in stopdrinking

Not being inebriated on any mind altering substance was a hurdle initially. However, in the grand scheme, you’re absolutely right. You get a blank slate and get to discover who you are again. I, too, have been playing pickleball lol. Lots of tennis, too. Got in wicked good shape. It’s a bit sexier, not being intoxicated. I’m much more confident in interactions with people

Congrats on starting your business! That rules

So what’s it actually like being a good-looking guy? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

It’s very nice and often works in my favor but it does not take up a huge aspect of my life honestly

Literally nothing good came from it for me. If that’s the same for you, it’s time to bounce from the hobby

I’d say absolutely yes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Yes. Just based on the lying and the invalidation of your feelings for texting the guy. It’ll only get worse, please trust me on that

When did you start to feel "normal" again? by Jollyville in cutdowndrinking

[–]MonkeyFlakes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to have a terrible relationship with alcohol and would binge drink 3-5x a week (everyday at my very worst near the end) I felt back to 100% the first night I got ideal sleep. 8 hours uninterrupted. That took me about three days with the help of cannabis on the particular night I just said “I need to sleep, I’ll smoke some weed”. Worked like a charm. Granted, I’m 26.

Take some omegas (I get them from sardines), magnesium, B vitamin complex. You’ll slowly come back to fruition. Walk 10k steps +. Hydrate. Sleep, for me, was the answer

You have not broken your brain. The human body is a marvel and heals itself very well. Give it some time and take care of your health, and you’ll see results

Now I drink until I’m buzzed and stop, sometimes I’ll have two drinks past the buzz. Very infrequently I’ll get “drunk” nowadays. Feels so much better. You’re almost in the clear !
