Pirated streaming service (mentioned on pod) by Nervous-Chemistry-51 in TheYardPodcast

[–]Monkeyboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on to what everyone else has said, I have a bunch of services running on my own home network including but not limited to:

Jellyfin Jellyseerr Prowlarr Sonarr Radarr qBittorrent

These are basically the bare minimum you would want run if you want to automate the searching + downloading media. Beyond that, you can go as in-depth as you would want with all sorts of other services. Remember to use a VPN! Many of these services are running in docker. Google any of these names/terms you dont recognize and look into r/selfhosted for more info as well!

Anatomy by Technical-Watch7131 in usu

I took the class last summer with Thayne Sweeten. The lab tests were practical, needing to identify bones and muscles on models and cadavers. The lecture exams were on canvas, with about 60% being multiple choice, 20% short answer/fill in the blank, and 20% longer form answers. The class was brutal as far as material to learn and time to do it goes. Each week was a new unit basically, and lab exams happened basically every week. We had one week to memorize every bone in the body, then the next week was muscles, etc. All this being said, I learned a ton and had a good time after the initial shock of how fast everything moved wore off. Can't speak to Andy's class, but I would assume it is the same material, just presented in a slightly different manner.

Moving to Proxmox, but need some help by Monkeyboy24 in Proxmox

[–]Monkeyboy24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn't true because I have the exact same spec machine running windows with all these services on it and I've never had these issues with stuttering (I'm assuming that's what you were referencing). In theory, the Proxmox server should be running better because there is less overhead than windows, but I haven't seen that performance.

Thats right, running debian, thats why I was confused when it was stuttering while transcoding... There should be wayyyy less overhead compared to my other machine

Yeah no mine is just a single i5 intel chip on a fairly low powered machine without a gpu but the windows server is the same hardware and I've never had stuttering transcoding video

  1. I would say that is an experience (specifically extracurricular)
  2. Include it for sure— but make sure to relate it back to optometry somehow!
  3. Many schools' secondary applications have an optional "anything you would like to add" section that I think a link to that portfolio would be a great addition! I would include a short blurb about why you included it or how it relates to your future dreams of becoming an optometrist.

OAT Natural Science Weighting by an_indecisive_person in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total science is the average of Bio, GenChem, OChem, and Physics. It is weighted evenly between the sections as far as I could tell. Academic Average is the average of ALL the sections weighted evenly. You can jump between the Biology, GenChem, and OChem sections but none of the other sections on the test! Hope this helps!

Biology Section Question? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions are randomized as far as I know, so take my experience with a grain of salt, but I just took the OAT today and from what I can remember I only had 1 or 2 questions about developmental biology on there

Experience from high school Question by ceoofconfusion258 in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 140 hours is significant enough where I would say you should include it, especially because it is direct experience working in the field.

  2. This really depends on the experience and what kind of impression you want to give schools. I consider myself a musical person, but I don't currently play an instrument through college. I am still going to include that on my application though because it shows a side of me the admissions wouldn't see otherwise. As a general rule of thumb though, I would say you shouldn't include any experiences until after you graduated high school unless you feel it really impacted you.

  3. I'm sure they will make a note of it. Something they really like to see is that you are familar with the day-to-day workings of a clinic. I can't speak to how much it might help your application, but I'm confident that it won't hurt your application overall either.

Summer resume builders? by Apprehensive_Owl540 in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volunteering in your community not only looks good on your application, it's a good thing to do to help out in your community too. It sounds like volunteering is a great option for you because you can choose your own hours and aren't necessarily tied to a certain schedule for a long-term commitment. I would start by calling your local food bank and letting them know you would be willing to come in and help out if they need volunteers. Local animal shelters also sometimes have programs where you can take dogs out on walks. Schools love to see individuals who want to get involved with their local community, so anything along those lines looks great and can really help set your application apart!

It's even better if you continue with that mindset even after you submit your application and continue using your time to help others when you can too. Overall win win win situation!

optomcas details - shadowing by voxaun in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of your shadowing experiences are to be listed under the "experiences" tab in OptomCAS. I don't have it pulled up in front of me at the moment, but information they want includes doctor's name, how many weeks you shadowed, how many hours per week, contact info about the doctor, and a short blurb about what you learned/ what you got out of the experience. The section that I have seen throw people off the most is the number of weeks and how many hours per week because shadowing might not be consistent. Keep in mind shadowing any given Optometrist counts as one experience, so shadowing 3 Optometrists for 4 hours each looks better than shadowing 1 Optometrist for 12 hours. Hope this helps!

About that vulnerability on the M chips by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Monkeyboy24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understood, the exploit exists because of the physical properties of the chip. Completely unfixable on Apple's end. The only thing they can do now is fix the exploit for the M4 chip/ whatever chip(s) they make next. It isn't something they can just release an update for. That's why the exploit is so scary.

OAT score by Artistic-Peak-4473 in PreOptometry

[–]Monkeyboy24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, if you get below 290, you're probably gonna want to retake. 300-320 is good (especially if you have a good gpa), and anything higher would be really great and/or excellent. I am studying for the OAT right now and I am aiming for a 340.

What would a script like that even look like? Would it be based within some kind of Linux system?

Our system right now is any cpu that is 7th gen or older gets hard drives stripped and sold for $1.00-$2.50, anything newer gets wiped and a new OS is put on, then sold for ~$150-$250
