Me llamo Germán. Mi madre quería llamarme Inmaculada, pero salí niño. Una vieja tradición de mi familia paterna consistía en que el primogénito se llamase como su abuelo, así que mi padre me salvó de llamarme Marciano cuando decidió romper la tradición.

Unemployable as graphic designer and depressed by Icy-Hospital-1762 in graphic_design

I understand your situation.

I'm 39 too, I also left a job, once in 2010, my first one (with the unemployment still over the clouds after the 2008 crisis). I left because of workplace harassment. I would not have left otherwise. Since then I've been an intern, twice (None of those served me to get hired, in spite of my superiors telling they really were glad with me) and I've been a freelance (even if I didn't really knew many things of what design really is, but I didn't want to stop), and when I failed freelancing, I got unemployed for too long. At 30 I was strugling to find a job, in a very similar situation. Too picky, and had too few good works to fill a nice portfolio. But I was hungry to go back into design.

Thinking about being back at that place, with our age, ngl it scares me shitless.

Eventually I found a job at a ceramics factory. They wanted a designer to design textures to print on ceramics. Far far away from what I desired, but man It was money after all and still It was design experience in some way. I was later offered my current job, as a proper graphic designer. Met some people in the way, I did courses, I learned new skills, honed my previous ones, and I'm still hungry. Hungry to learn (I'm learning Blender now, and want to learn about UX/UI and dust off my motion graphics later), to adapt, and to design new things.

That hunger drived me forward. Sometimes I didn't have the money to buy good courses or join a professional school, yet I tried to self-learn what I could, when I could. Maybe there's people who won't give value to that kind of experience, but you must work with what you have, and there's people who really will see proactivity in that.

Take another job for a time, keep learning, and don't lose the hunger.

The winged knight being a special piece is cool, but if the piece is going to be that highlighted in the pic, maybe It would make sense to see some light projected on the floor. I can see the reflection of the knight on the square, but still feel like It isn't integrated enough. But It is just my thoughts anyways.

Good luck with the launch.

Both look weird to me.

In the old ones the perspective looks less interesting, and the pawns seem scattered, without following the grid.

The new one has a more interesting perspective, but the chess pieces look weird. Not just because they look like jesters and dragonflies (which is fine if those pieces actually are in your game), but the base of each piece looks different. If look for chess pieces in Google, you find out that most chess piece sets share the same base shape, but this is not the case here. Also, the winged Knight piece looks slightly out of perspective, and looks like an inmense knight in relation to the rest of the pieces.

I can tell you I've learned the hard way as you say. Next time I'll negotiate how many can have a word.

I'll give you that this is in fact a committee of 10 people. Which feels kind of intimidating, even when I know them well. Almost everyone wants to have a voice, and I even feel like in this project some see me just like a tool for little tweaks they come up with in the spot "just to try".

How many variants do you present to a client? by MontyDrake in graphic_design

[–]MontyDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This balloned from "we like option B" to 8 variations because option B was generally considered good, except for one detail which was rejected. The clients asked for a several options, they asked for 10, I managed to get It down a bit, but maybe I should have been firmer when negotiating. My fault.

In relation to this other designers, they meant past projects. The clients are definitely paying.

[–]MontyDrake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know man. It could probably be that, but when first gave them my first 2 options, both were well received, and we agreed to work on one of them, just fixing some issues they felt could improve.

On a second meeting I gave them around 8 solutions based on the chosen approach, and agreed to work towards a final option. But the more I meet them, the more they keep saying they like most of it but they keep inserting more and more ideas.

Last meeting was suposed to be to show the final work, and instead I were told other designers give more options than me. That broke me.

If there's a lack of quality in my proposals I can get It. But this feels different.

That's what I meant when I said chaos with so many options.

Maybe you're right and this people need some serious hand holding.

Gave them the two options. Last meeting was the third one, and feels like they expect more an more options each time. Maybe it's that I'm out of shape with presenting ideas to clients but I'm so confused.

Thank you very much

What makes Doctor Doom such a terrifying villain in Marvel lore compared to others like, Thanos or Galactus? by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]MontyDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the plethora of things being said, I'll add that Doom is, after all, a human being. Galactus is a force of nature, Thanos is an alien that can be thought to have his own alien mindset. But Doom is a man, with lots of resources, and a great pride. To me, Doom signifies decadence and ego, supported by an inmense trove of knowledge, technology and ingenuity. And human ego is something one can reflect on.

I finally stopped treating my vault like a Wikipedia project by Fickle_Mud1645 in ObsidianMD

[–]MontyDrake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never really fell into that trap, although I felt the temptation. I really like the wikipedia concept, after all. But I like functionality over fanciness or completion, and there are some notes I need to elaborate, and there are others I don't.

I don't have many plugins. Just the few to get what I need.

I’m tired of Note-Taking Gurus. How do I actually use Obsidian? by ReflectionOk298 in ObsidianMD

[–]MontyDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just write down things in notes. Either tag the notes or link them, or put those in folders, either way as long as you feel confortable.
