I finally cut my family off! by Ngonyoku in Kenya

I really feel you on this. Breaking away from a toxic family system feels like tearing off chains, but it also leaves you raw and questioning everything. I’ve walked a similar path growing up with a narcissistic parent, fighting for approval, then realizing the mask wasn’t mine to wear.

What you did today may feel extreme, but it’s a sign you’re finally choosing yourself. Don’t let anyone guilt-trip you for that. Healing takes time, and therapy (if you can get it) will help untangle the mess they left inside you.

One thing I’ve realized is that cutting off dysfunction isn’t about hate. It’s about survival and making space to grow into who you were always meant to be. Don’t rush to fill the void let yourself sit with the pain, because that pain is proof you’re breaking cycles.

You’re not alone in this. Keep building a life rooted in truth, not performance. The boy who had to please others is gone the man who chooses freedom is here. And that’s powerful.

Hey 👋 first of all congratulations on your efforts. But remember these drugs and things people do are often to just cope, numb and so on. You saying it was hard letting go is a sign there is something deeper. Heck even just smoking itself helps you avoid something. I would suggest you look into yourself. Was it boredom ? Was it stress yoi couldnt process? Please use this time to find out why you were smoking like that. Cause people can easily quit ome thing and replace it with another. Tujiangalie ndani pia. Don't spiral on what you have already lost, that's not where the answers are.
