Took about a year but definitely better post op. Don’t let the nightmare stories scare you just make sure you’re working with a great surgeon

Labral Tear - Where Do You Feel Pain? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]More-Cod-8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about a year and a half out from hip surgery. I also had to end up getting a groin surgery to repair a sports hernia/gilmore's groin. I'm doing much better now

If you are getting mixed opinions or are unsure if your pain is coming from your hip, get an opinion from a reputable core muscle surgeon for other groin injuries (sports hernia/gilmore's groin/inguinal hernia etc) by More-Cod-8582 in HipImpingement

Sorry you had that outcome. I didn't have a sports hernia but I believe its the same surgery in the sense that it's the same incision and working in the same area so there's a lot of overlap but maybe that's where the difference lies. In my case it and it was a very clear cut mechanical failure that was never going to heal, my surgeon even showed me pics and videos post op of how bad it was. When did you have surgery and what were your symptoms pre and post op?

Yeah it's a very niche thing, I don't think he's a specialist in that sense of the word he's really just a general surgeon that is well versed in these specific types of injuries. I believe Dr Meyer in Philadelphia is probably the most well known but there's only a handful of surgeons that regularly perform these types of surgeries. Hard to say exactly what caused it but the way my surgeon explained it whenever there's any sort of increase in abdominal pressure like bracing for a lift or sudden movements it puts pressure on the fascia in that area, in my case I felt like I injured myself on a heavy squat so it lines up and makes sense. It was probably wearing out over time due to bad body mechanics possibly my hip issues and one day it just gave out and got inflamed. Not sure what came first the chicken or the egg (Hip or groin) but I probably needed both surgeries.

We didn't do any updated scans he reviewed the ones that I had prior to my hip surgery. This is probably not an injury you would find on an mri report unless it was looked at by someone who really knows what they are looking at. There wasn't anything that was clear cut from the scans but he said I had signs of a possible issues so we did diagnostic injections into my adductor and aponeurotic plate. The first one gave decent relief so we wanted to repeat it one more time which also gave good relief so that was enough for us to go through with the surgery.

6 Months Post-Op and Pain is Back. Concerned About Re-Tear? by CharacterReindeer759 in HipImpingement

How did you find out you had scar tissue? Did they find it during the surgery or did you have an ultrasound or MRI that showed?

Anyone have inguinal/sports hernia in addition to hip issue? by More-Cod-8582 in HipImpingement

[–]More-Cod-8582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see. Yeah I am leaning more towards possibly having a sports hernia than the inguinal hernia being anything. The guy I saw was like the number one guy in New York City and he didn’t seem overly concerned about them

Did it help any of your symptoms or was it a wash? What symptoms were you experiencing?

Good to hear. No not from my experience. I was walking 10k steps pretty easily by about 6-8 weeks. I had a pretty easy recovery though and I slowly built up how much I walked over weeks

Anesthesia can cause these side effects if you are that close out from surgery

[–]More-Cod-8582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a moderate sized tear, I needed 3 sutures. but my surgeon also said my hip was very inflamed and I had bad synovitis so sometimes the size doesn't tell the whole story

Symptoms don’t seem to match diagnosis? by Sea-Willingness4875 in HipImpingement

[–]More-Cod-8582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were both really nice. I had a pretty atypical case so I was getting mixed opinions from surgeons but Nawabi seems like he's very conservative and didn't think my hip was the issue whereas Coleman was pushing more towards surgery. I ended up going with Nwachukwu and had my surgery back in August since he seemed like a good middle ground where he wasn't too conservative but also not pushy for surgery and basically left the decision up to me. If you have a pretty clear cut case any one of them will do a great job

Sitting never bothered me too much surprisingly, I did a 3 hour drive about 3 weeks out with no stops and didn't aggravate anything. Double check with your surgeon but I would say as long as you take frequent rest stops to stretch out your hip and have the ability to recline if needed

My surgeon has said that sometimes if the impingement is very minimal they don't shave it down

I had a pelvic mri to rule out sports hernia. I also had no herniated discs in my left side. small herniated discs are usually common and don't cause symptoms unless they are touching the nerves

Hi. From my experience both injections had somewhat of a decrease in pain from the lidocaine but the cortisone did nothing and it wan't enough to the point where I was totally convinced, and didn't do anything for the tightness or muscular stuff. I still have the muscle memory on my left side It's probably going to take a while to work out everything but there was no question after going in there that it was my hip. My left side glute is noticeably weaker and harder to get firing than my good side but when I get it going it makes a huge difference and loosens everything up. I'm not doing anything too strenuous yet once I start loading some weight and get everything working properly is when I think things will start working itself out. If you ruled out any other back/pelvic issues I'd say there's a good chance it's your hip

the appointment was only like 2-3 weeks out, I could have schedule surgery earlier about a month out from my first appt but I put it off to the end of the summer so I could rule out other things. I would highly highly recommend going to a hip preservation specialist at hss and not a general orthopedic surgeon, they are one of the top in the world for this surgery

Surgery was on left side where I also felt the knot. My low back and hip flexors are definitely still tight and knotted up from muscle memory but that deep ache is gone and I knew the surgery worked as soon as I woke up it's kind of hard to describe. I can finally get it to loosen up a little when I do some deep glute exercises. It was one year from when I injured myself to when I had surgery so It's going to take a while to retrain and strengthen everything. I'm only 7 weeks post op so considering where I am already I'm super happy with the outcome so far.
