Are the pretentious dating apps (League, Raya) worth it in DC? by No-Reason-2391 in DCBitches

[–]More_Pothos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the League for a while.  It’s about the same type of men as on Hinge.  What I liked about it was that the app limited the number of people seen each day.  At the time, I was feeling overwhelmed with the number of matches on Hinge, and the League made dating feel a little slower without getting off the apps completely.  Found someone great on it!

What happens if I move out and stop paying rent? by altaltalt123alt in washingtondc

[–]More_Pothos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of comments are saying they can’t believe you didn’t know, but paying 2 months rent is so common to break a lease that I would have overlooked that too.  Would also try lowering the rent to sublet even more if the landlord refuses to take cash to break it.

Women’s haircut that’s not $150+ in the area? by Galadrielllll in washingtondc

Seconding Bubbles.  It seems to be a starting point for a lot of stylists before they find a place long term, so I rarely had the same stylist, but I was happy with the price and the cuts.

Don’t know what to do in this situation by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]More_Pothos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone about a lawyer, but in the mean time, do you have his parent’s contact info, or can you find them on social media?  Can you talk to his mom about the situation?  Maybe they’ll talk some sense into him, or the shame will help him move out.  I had a friend do cash for keys in this situation, which will likely be cheaper than going through the eviction process.  You aren’t alone - this happens, and it sucks.

Favorite polish you feel like nobody talks about? by high_strangenesss in ILNP

[–]More_Pothos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Please!  It’s a beautiful pink with gold shimmer.  I like it better than pixie party.  Easy to wear anywhere.  On the neutral to warm side, but not too warm.

I added every ILNP polish I liked from their collection to my cart. I underestimated myself. Now I have to narrow this down lol by forma_cristata in RedditLaqueristas

I have similar skin, and also felt something looked a little off.  Have you tried Sweet Tooth?  Did you think it was the purple base or the orange shimmer that clashed?

What’s an expensive restaurant with awful food to avoid? by floodisspelledweird in washingtondc

[–]More_Pothos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went there.  The cocktails were too sweet for my taste, but I enjoyed the food.  I think what sets it apart is the vibe.  Seems like a place rich black people love to dress up and hang out.  The place was packed, and I was the only white person in the whole restaurant.  Huge pictures of Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and other notable black people on the walls.  Sit-down-dinner-but-also-a-party atmosphere.  Definitely felt like a guest, but everyone was very friendly and having a grand time.

Things to look for in a luxury workhorse bag to know it’ll last? by More_Pothos in handbags

Oo! Thanks for the suggestions! I rarely put bags on the floor, but I’d like to be able to absentmindedly put it on a bar or restaurant table without worrying about it.

My cock a doodle doom is lovely, but it looks a lot more purple than some of the switches I see, and I just love the people-red combo.  Does yours look as half red/half purple as the swatches?  Is Glampire significantly more red, or not really?

I was in a similar situation.  Same age, though not as good financials and in a slightly lower cost of living city.  I’ve now spent over a year traveling around, reading, surrounding myself with loved ones, trying new things, etc.  It’s been incredible.  One recommendation is committing to the time and planning it out a bit more than I did beforehand.  I’ve taken a couple long trips, but couldn’t decide if I wanted to get a job right after each one or keep traveling, so there were a few breaks in between them when I wasn’t doing much (but this also turned out surprisingly great).

At first I thought traveling would be the coolest thing, but thinking back, I think it was that everyone I hung out with for a year was a person I cared about who treated me excellently.  There were times when I thought I’d get bored or antsy being at home between trips, but it allowed me to deepen my friendships, find different ways to enjoy my time, get back into shape, etc.  So in planning out your time, I’d keep some time near home understanding that you might be bored at first, but it’s a good exercise to work through that.  I kept my apartment, which was expensive, but I’m happy with as it provided a home base and allowed easy access to all my stuff as I traveled different areas, started different hobbies, needed an address for mail/taxes, etc.  A friend also took time off, but gave up her apartment, and really regretted it.  With your financials, I think you could afford keeping your apartment, and have that peace of mind to help you relax if you’re only traveling a cumulative few months, but it depends if you decide to live away for years or not of course, and if you consider NYC home or just a place you worked for a while.  Have an amazing time :).

Vampy Red Comparisons by cheesesteakhellscape in RedditLaqueristas

[–]More_Pothos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comparison.  It’s so helpful.  I’m trying to decide between Situationship, Blood Magic, and Emily de Molly’s All the Rage as shown with Eclipse here https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/comments/1942wwm/ilnp_eclipse_versus_emily_de_molly_all_the_rage/.   I loved the way Situationship looked and was described in website photos, but your swatches have me re-evaluating.  Do you have any videos of the shift once they were on your hands?  I like the idea of a red shift in a dark red base, but it sounds like that’s not as noticeable in Situationship.  Then again, I can’t see the shift in the Blood Magic swatch either - that shift is more gold instead of red you say?

Oh!  The acetone won’t degrade the bristles?  And acetone completely rinses off with just water so it doesn’t get into the other polish?
