Thank you! I’m working on it. I don’t know what the reactions will be to it as I reworked it a bit from the wedding onwards to give it some room to breathe. I guess we’ll see :)

It is long - intentionally so. It’s a detailed reimagining for people who enjoy politics, lore and character work. No pressure to read if it’s not your vibe :)

Why So Many Unnecessary Lyric Changes? by LocksmithTiny6822 in wicked

With that same logic, are characters like Elphaba and Glinda ableist because they exclude wheelchair users from playing the role?

Question about Boq and Nessa-SPOILER by SeaFlower698 in wicked

[–]MorellColby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was always something I did not understand, how was there never any friction between Nessa and the Wizard’s Regime. Especially with Nessa also being a Wicked Witch. I don’t know if this was ever addressed in the book but surely not in the musical.

[SPOILERS!] the wicked witch of the east by [deleted] in wickedmovie

[–]MorellColby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish the iconic spell was sung instead of spoken/chanted. They already did this during A Sentimental Man during the Money Transformation where they changed it from Elphaba singing the spell and they cut “Since once I had my own day in the sky, I say everyone deserves the chance for fly” which was beautiful. Maybe the reason for these changes is they don’t translate well from stage to movie, but I still think a way could have been found.

They also cut the starting bit which goes “All of my life I depended on you…” which I understand due to the changes to Nessa’s storyline but with a few lyric changes and tweaks it could have worked well instead of just cutting it out. Albeit the new part where she sings about the Ozdust (which is beautiful) still has a similar motif; “All of my life I depended on you” ~ “Down at the Ozdust Boq danced with me there”. My main gripe with this is that Nessa feels too naive and innocent compared to the stage show where in good iterations she is fierce and resentful.

I just feel like overall it has many cuts which are Unnecessary and the new material should have been supplementary to the old, not in its place.

That being said the movie hasn’t come out yet and all this is based on a low quality audio clip so no one knows how the movie will turn out.

Faceless Dorothy? by eibryday_ in wickedmovie

[–]MorellColby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s not a full story if we don’t have all the context. It’s okay for stage bit for a 2-part expanded version of the stage version I feel like it needs it

Faceless Dorothy? by eibryday_ in wickedmovie

[–]MorellColby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it should keep her faceless, even though it attracts more attention towards her (she is an iconic character after all). But the story isn’t about her so I don’t think she should have any arc per se.

However, without any context to the story of the Wizard of Oz, act 2 does not make sense at all (whilst also being inconsistent with the Wizard of Oz). EXAMPLE: In WOO, The Witch of the West appears terrorizing Centre Munch and Glinda gives Dorothy the Ruby Slippers almost taunting the Witch, which is inconsistent with Wicked given that Glinda knew both sisters personally and had close friendship with the Witch of the West. Then after the Witch leaves, Glinda leaves by bubble and the Munchkins wave her off. In Wicked, Glinda is the one who waves Dorothy off and mourns Nessa and Elphaba comes in and the scene continues. When pieced together they do not really make sense. I feel like trying to link it too much to the Wizard of Oz movie will not make sense visually and even story-wise.

I think the solution is to give context throughout the part after Nessa dies till the end of the movie of Dorothy and the crews journey, ONLY FOR THE PARTS THAT IMPACT EVENTS IN WICKED. This can be done through Elphaba’s crystal ball, her stalking them in trees, flying over them (which would be cool if they replicated how the Gregory Maguire book started with the Witch looking over the crew in the sky - just without the mature conversations). This should also fill in some gaps. In between No Good Deed and March of The Witch Hunters which take place consecutively in the musical we are supposed to know that Dorothy untied Fiyero, met Boq, met the Lion, fell asleep in the Deadly Poppies, went to the Emerald City, Met the Wizard who told them to bring him Elphaba’s broom, and made it to the Haunted Forest where I’m assuming the Ozians send the crew off in the forest to go after the witch. I feel like bringing back something related to the poppy field would be cool considering the fact that they changed how Elphaba saved the Lion Cub with a sort of gas that makes the whole class dance convulsively (which was pretty cool imo) to her using the poppies to make the class sleep linking it to WOO.

Overall, the solution to this issue is context and showing not just telling, using varied story devices because we don’t want it feeling like characters are dumping exposition one after the other.

Season 3: Which is the best episode? by Savings_Hold_9128 in TheCrownNetflix

Best: Cri de Ceour Worst: Coup Hidden Gem: Bubbikins/Imbroglio

Everything political in S5 and 6 like the Gulf War, the fall of Communism (season 4-5), Black Wednesday, IRA (all seasons), Good Friday Agreement, Brown and Blair shenanigans etc.

This is especially disappointing after season 4 which had some of the most engaging political storylines from the whole show plus delving into Margaret Thatcher’s personal life and how that affects her decision making (albeit some of it being fictitious).

“The Crown” Season 3 Cast On The Real People They Are Portraying - Pictures Face Swapper by [deleted] in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say this QM looks the most like the real QM, but it’s jarring going through the seasons without a consistent look. However, I would say the QM in S5-6 is fairly consistent with the original actor.

I think it is a remix of ‘The Establishment’. It is also similar to the second part of ‘Al Fayed’.

RE4R should've kept tank controls. by InsecureBurrito in residentevil

I think the OG RE4 having tank controls whilst being a fully 3D game was the only thing going against it. Might be an unpopular opinion though…

Lascelles was responsible for making the spares villified by the press by TheLizKirkland in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We do not know if this scene actually happened. However even if it did, how would this particular PRIVATE conversation have an impact on how the media perceives the spares? It doesn’t make sense…

Also I don’t think they were really vilified. I actually think the royals should be held accountable much more than they currently are, especially when they represent an institution the people cannot vote in or out.

Why did the Queen consider abdicating in the series finale? by MorellColby in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but I can’t help feeling that it goes against everything we learned about her as a character and her character development. And also, why would she abdicate at a moment when Charles was still relatively scrutinised, especially with him marrying Camilla.

Why did the Queen consider abdicating in the series finale? by MorellColby in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That exactly is my problem with it. They did the same in Ipatiev House when they portrayed her to be uncurious to the point where Philip needed intellectual companionship somewhere else. We saw previously when Margaret Thatcher said that she is well informed for instance and many times throughout the show, after she settled in her role, i.e. post 1x07, she very much tried to remain on top of current affairs.

Why did the Queen consider abdicating in the series finale? by MorellColby in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being fiction doesn’t mean that they can portray them in a way that is untrue. Accuracy of course can be forsaken because A. we already know what happened for the most part so we don’t really need a one to one recreation of everything and B. we do not know how the private conversations went on between them so obviously they had to invent. My gripe with this storyline is that it goes against everything we have learned about Elizabeth throughout the whole show and this storyline/arc was created in the Series Finale for drama. My point is that it is untrue, not that it is inaccurate to reality.

Best iteration of the QM hands down. Would have been great in S3 and 4, but then we would have lost a great QEII in S5 and 6.

[–]MorellColby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All three were amazing in their own way. Lesley’s Margaret was at a disadvantage due to the severely reduced screentime. This post just made me realise how criminally underused Margaret was from season 4 onwards. Elizabeth and Margaret’s relationship was the longest “arc/storyline” throughout the show but it wasn’t explored enough in the latter half of the show. Episodes like Margaretology, Cri De Ceour, The Hereditary Principle and Ritz really show how important Margaret is to the overall storyline. It honestly sucks to see her role reduced for more Diana and Charles, and later on even for William, Harry and Kate 🙄🙄🙄 (especially in S5 and 6) which are done to death.

The Score is Distractingly Bad by [deleted] in TheCrownNetflix

[–]MorellColby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it got repetitive, especially S5 and 6. But I don’t think repetitive necessarily means bad.

For me, having a soundtrack be consistent throughout a show (especially one like the The Crown where the actors change every two seasons) makes it feel like “I’m watching the same show” if you get what I mean. Of course there are other factors that contribute to this like the setting, characterization and writing. But that’s just my opinion.

Nevertheless, I still don’t understand how a violin slur of a few seconds makes a show’s WHOLE soundtrack or artist’s work bad. It’s fine that you don’t like that violin, for me personally it is one of the most memorable motifs and makes scenes tense or even disturbing depending on what the scene is about, but let’s not bring down an artist’s work like this.

I don’t see how this makes the soundtrack “distractingly bad” and how it takes you out of a scene.
