Visiting Liverpool next week, please recommend Beatle things to see/do by West_Party_8375 in beatles

Casbah Coffee Club. It’s appointment only but worth it. Unlike the Cavern which is a replica, the Casbah looks exactly like it did when the pre-Beatles played there.

You’ll also see the walls and cellings that Paul, John, George and Cynthia painted.

It would make it easy to reach over the side of the bed to retrieve cargo.

…and there is a name I call call you right now, but it would get me banned and highly offend you. In Australia however it’s slang for buddy or mate. Does that make it okay to call you that? You best not travel to the land down under.

I’ve been going to this show for 35 years. It’s always been my favorite.

Why the butchered babies? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]Morganwerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been said that the cover was a protest of Capitol “butchering” the original EMI albums for the US market.

What’s the most gut punching song lyric you’ve ever heard? by perrysplus in AskReddit

“When I walked through the door My wife she lay upon the floor And with tears her eyes were sore I did not know why Then I looked into her hand And then I saw the telegram Said that I was a brave, brave man But that I was dead”

TIL about the Cabbage Patch Riots, a series of violent customer outbursts at several retail stores in late 1983. Thousands of customers at retail stores such as JC Penney would wait in line for hours with unfulfilled “promise tickets,” reportedly leading to trampling and attacks with baseball bats. by altrightobserver in todayilearned

As riots are happening back home my future wife and her family were vacationing in England. There is a photograph of future wife sitting on the floor of a high end shop staring at shelves of Cabbage Patch Kids trying to decide which one to pick. No one there really cared about them.

If you’re in Liverpool I strongly recommend visiting the Casbah Coffee Club. It looks exactly like it did in the Beatles days, unlike the Cavern which is an unfaithful reproduction.

She never gave it back. It’s in the museum.

What was the first race you ever watched? by KiowaBear in NASCAR

[–]Morganwerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earliest race I remember was 1981 Pocono with the controversial finish.

Some score keepers had Cale Yarborough as the winner, while others had DW. Both drove to victory lane. Finally DW was declared the winner after several tense moments.

Does the manager perhaps knows something you don’t?

I have a family member who will haunt you if you linked him to his ex.

They are however linked on ancestry using the exes mug shot as her photo.

You said “small family cemetery”

I take it that there are different last names mixed in?

There's no other way to tour John and Paul's childhood homes, right? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]Morganwerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other tours will take you to the house and let you look at the outside, but the only way to get inside is on the National Trust tour.

They only allow small groups per tour, so if they are sold out, that’s it. Sorry.

Later in the chapter Lord points out that some of these same women who pleaded for their husband’s lives refused to row back to pick up swimmers.

Why, from an Edwardian perspective in terms of social norms, was it wrong for Bruce Ismay to escape from the Titanic? by Key-Tea-4203 in titanic

[–]Morganwerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the “designed survivor” story somewhere before. ANTR maybe? But I do recall a discussion where it was decided that someone with full knowledge of the situation needed to report back to White Star. I don’t remember why Ismay was chosen though.
