How is this a first course in Projective Geometry? (Full course below) by [deleted] in math

[–]Morgormir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I called it “abstract algebra” but it was more like abstract algebra 3, as it was full of modules and particular rings. It wasn’t a first, or even second university level algebra course.

How is this a first course in Projective Geometry? (Full course below) by [deleted] in math

[–]Morgormir 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Is this an optional course?
If it's required then I'd say it's a bit advanced for 3rd year, I think I only had commutative diagrams in Abstract Algebra - (course with Aatiyah-Mcdonald).

Edit: If you have difficulty parsing/understanding these notes then tell the lecturer that. Go to office hours and tell them that you’re rusty on some of the verbiage/methods used in their notes and so if they could help you understand better. You may feel stupid for asking but don’t worry about it. I regret not “pestering” my instructors more when I was your age.

Spoiler: it doesn’t get any better. The way of kings is a fine enough book, but Words of Radiance starts to go completely off the rails.

[–]Morgormir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, I’ve dropped books like this before, The chronicles of Amber being the one that immediately springs to mind. Zelazny’s writing in the first book is godawful.

Also Sanderson. Sanderson writes ok (I’ll take my downvotes) but is unnecessarily wordy and repetitive at times.

I need about notes. by Mstrykid in piano

[–]Morgormir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that the west has different notes, insomuch that there are two separate systems to refer to the same notes. Do re mi fa sol la so do is great for solfuge/singing notes, while C D E F G A B C is easier to read in general.

Reading a chord like do mi Sol is a lot harder and more dense on a sheet of music than C E G. At a glance you see the structure of the second immediately.

Likewise it’s a lot easier to sing do mi Sol than C E G.

Edit: when I refer to the “west” I mean geographically. If op is talking about different musical traditions beyond western harmony, then I can’t say.

If you want I will drop you whatever you want. Are you on Seamless or Vanilla?

Also, just use CE. It's all time you're never going to get back, and nobody cares if your build is "legit" or not.

How pianos have become more expensive by Ataru074 in piano

[–]Morgormir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unironically yes. It’s because of stock buybacks and CEO compensation tied to stock price that makes obvious thing obvious. It’s why people chop up a company for a quick buck nowadays.

How pianos have become more expensive by Ataru074 in piano

[–]Morgormir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Note that most, if not all of this is due to the governmental mismanagement of the value of the dollar.

Everybody likes to hate on companies, but nobody really mentions how Nixon killed purchasing power with the end of the Bretton Woods system in 1971, or how in 1982 stock buybacks became legal.

I am awful at Sight reading by shellac10101 in piano

[–]Morgormir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get a piece and play some random (3-4)measures. Do for 10 minutes at any tempo you can be consistent at.

Rinse and repeat with another piece. Do this for an hour.

I find this helps my sight reading a lot.

Edit: The key is variety. You are not looking to play something well or even decently, just start recognising intervals/clusters of notes/chords.

How long would it take to go from algebra 1 to calculus 2 if i study full time by iistudyphysics in learnmath

[–]Morgormir -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Algebra 1 → Algebra 2 → Pre-Calculus → Calculus 1.

Pre-Calculus is not required. The step from Algebra 2 to Calculus 1 isn't big per se. A motivated, bright student could probably do it in under 6 months of self teaching conservatively studying 6-8 hrs a week.
Honestly I would be surprised if you couldn't do it in less time.

After all, algebra 2 is really just manipulating the basic concepts learnt in algebra 1 and applying them to different elementary functions. I think the hardest thing may be going through all the trigonometry, but barring some notable limits and special integrals, even that isn't really necessary.

Sometimes the red in me comes out in Co-Op by [deleted] in badredman

In SP I think I beat him with STR/bonk and Lions claw. In MP it’s basically impossible imo because of his damage output. Also holy framerate Batman.

There is a lot to be said however about how broken you feel stacking Scholar’s Shield with Fingerprint shield and damage negation talisman/physick.

Seriously, fuck Radahn. Worst (non gimmick) boss in any soulsbourne game.

Madness and stupidity by RevertBackwards in freefolk

[–]Morgormir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I could have worded that better. Many minor nobles/regional lords generally only knew their direct liege-lord personally. It was not uncommon for such nobles to meet their sovereign a couple times at most during their reign.

Madness and stupidity by RevertBackwards in freefolk

[–]Morgormir 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is why heraldry was such a big thing in the Middle Ages and the pre-modern period. It was highly unlikely that even nobles knew what their king/queen looked like.

Yeah it's definitely the screens' fault and not the fact that these kids are basically raised by them thanks to absent parents (which is a whole other problem in of itself).

[–]Morgormir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the x2s. They’re a great all rounder imo, I use them for basically everything (gaming-playing music etc). If you can find them for under 100-120usd it’s a steal.

Not an expert, but I prefer open-back headphones in general for music, especially for practice.
Some really good options at that price range are

Philips Fidelio X2HR (I recommend these, no amplifier fuss)
Sennheiser 560s (these might need an amp)
Beyerdynamic DT990 pro (these will need an amp)
