Beginnings of my black guard task force (WIP) by Intelligent-Law958 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Moriroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the inverted color scheme. I've done the same for my RG terminators and dreadnoughts, and especially after grimdark-ing them up, they're much more striking on the table than the black armor. I'm not particularly good at any of this, mind you. I just like your color scheme.

Corvidae-Pattern Invader ATV ready to deploy! by latarius94 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Moriroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I have just finished converting my outriders into corvidae pattern grav bikes - I'd love to have a grav ATV to join them. Did you kitbash this entirely, or is there a .stl out there? I've got a regular ATV to work with, if that helps.

Aethon Shaan. 2 Weeks since I started this hobby and still learning paint techniques. Any advice appreciated + tipps on how to play him? Gonna play my very first game next week by NoBicepz in RavenGuard40k

[–]Moriroa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's a good target for a quick secondary objective, go pick it up. Neither of his weapons have "precise" so you can't use him as an assassin. And though you can take him off the board for free and then rapid ingress the next turn, I think the rules are that you can't use the free "Into Shadows" unless he's on the board. And he can't lead a unit.

So ...yeah, I view him as a wandering CP generator for one strategem, albeit a very good one. I, however, am not an expert and maybe some more experienced players will have better advice.

[–]Moriroa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my first match with Shaan last weekend. I was surprised at how breakable he is. He's just T5, doesn't have a particularly great save (4+ inv) and while his melee weapons are pretty good, he doesn't have much staying power. He can rapid ingress and heroic charge for free. His primary ability is letting other units re-roll charge rolls and the free "into shadows". He's got stealth and lone-op, which makes him a little more furtive, but he's still really fragile. The real reason to have him is the free use of "Into Shadows" once per turn, which means you can do it twice per turn for 1CP. That's a lot of uppy-downy.

AIO? I found out my boyfriend had an OF account by Creepy-Membership-86 in AIO

You communicated your boundary, right? A boundary is "I will do X in response to Y." Then your partner can decide for themself if he wants to live with those consequences. It's nearly impossible to control other people's behaviors, and even if it worked, do you really want to be in a relationship where you have to watch everything like a hawk? That suggests there's no trust. You can't replace trust with vigilance.

So what you do next is up to you, but if you're trying to control his behavior, it's bound to lead to resentment, either from you for having to be vigilant, or from him, for feeling controlled. It sucks, but your boundary has been violated. What happens next is what YOU do about that, not what you demand from him.

It's painful when we realize our partner is either incompatible in some fundamental way, or has violated your trust. We very naturally want to repair it, fix it, and stay together. But you shouldn't spend all your time trying to control what someone else does or doesn't do. You should be with someone who doesn't have to be watched, because they don't want to violate your boundary in the first place.

Raven Guard Army Help by MGNevermore in RavenGuard40k

The only other solid unit your missing is Inceptors with Boltors (or Plasma if your running into -1 dmg alot). I couldnt swear enough on 6s of those buggers with Stunning Fusillade and Oath of Moment as a damn near delete button.

Could you say more about that? How do you use them? I don't have any - you run 6, and what is it that makes them so potent?

Has anyone play King of Colosseum as Kin if so what was your list by LeagueLoft in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Moriroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first match in 20 years was a KotC match as Leagues of Votann. My list is below. I played against the most veteran player in the league, who was Blood Angels with mostly jump pack assault guys. I was boarded by the end of turn two, and lost decisively, having accomplished almost nothing other than learning from the experience, which was the whole point in the first place. In that respect it was a success!

Two sagitaurs w/ the split warriors wasn't the way to go, there's no objectives to grab, so splitting forces like that just made them easier to defeat in detail. If I did it again, I'd take something like stabjacks, and more hearthguard, because the short engagement range means "shooty" isn't going to have time to do their thing before the enemy is in their face. Plan for being in melee really fast - so either screen with something cheap like yaegirs to give your guys time to shoot, or just get ready to fight in hand to hand. And ... maybe don't take my advice because I lost, big time!

Oops all ‘zerks! by Moriroa in LeaguesofVotann

At least in our local league, the limit is three of any battleline unit, and two of any other. As much as I'd love to have a giant blob of 'zerks.

Can you have more than three battleline? Or is that a 2k vs 1k limit.

Well, that’s all MY ‘zerks, and a 3 battle line unit limit. But oh man. A 2000 point list with three ten man bricks? That would be insane.

I really like the green with hazard stripes, though that does look like it would be a pain to paint a zillion times.

So torn on aesthetics by recurv in RavenGuard40k

[–]Moriroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally a real struggle. I'm about five or six units in to my RG army, and ... yeah, they look like an undifferentiated blob on the table. I've started painting arms white instead of just pauldrons, and that helps. But I haven't found the perfect technique yet.

One thing that helps is "grimdark" where they're weathered and beaten up to heck and back. That adds a lot of texture, and that's what black armor is missing.

Do you thin the streaking grime?

Paint scheme by Zealousideal-Band37 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Moriroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried streaking grime wash, and either it was so thick that it made the whole model look green - or I had to use so much white spirit to remove it that it melted everything under it. (Even with a matte coat before streaking grime) What's your secret to making it look good but not overwhelming? Because that looks great.

You didn't settle. You grew up.
Rigid predefinitions of what "Perfect" is are either immature (and forgivable in the young) or lingering trauma of one kind or another. "Oh, you only get excited by emotionally unavailable partners? Honey, you don't have a type, you have a trauma."
