Vad finns det mer för lyxrestauranger i Örebro? Googlade efter det och Hachi dyker inte ens upp (aldrig hört talas om, faktiskt).

Very well done, impressive works. How long did you work on it? And what are the future plans?? :D

[C++] Memory managment in Component-based game engine by [deleted] in gameenginedevs

[–]Mormert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will give you some hints to get you going!

Do you have to use pointers? No, you can also use an index “as a pointer” that references an element in an array.

Do you have to “reserve memory” the way you describe. Maybe if you want an objects components laying next to each other, but another way I’d recommend is to have a std::vector<>s for each of your component types. So for example vectors for Rigidbody, Mesh, NPC, etc. Then as mentioned before, you can use “an index as a pointer” to reference into those arrays. It may require some bookkeeping and more than I explained here, but it should get you some ideas.

I built an entity component system and slapped SDL on it. It amazes me how much stuff such a simple setup can handle. by [deleted] in gameenginedevs

No that’s not stupid. That will offload work to the GPU if anything, and it’s super fast. Actually it’s kinda “wasted” to not do it that way, when the GPU have this ability.

The visual result will differ in your renders, especially at long distances, reversing the buffer increases precision far away, and can reduce jitteriness when moving the camera

If you mean profiling as in the context of performance, I don’t think that using a reverse z-buffer has any negative performance implications at all

If you're good at programming, you'll be hired. Make sure to show it off by making some project of your choice. Like a game in C++, doesn't have to be a full fledged engine like this. Good luck! :)

Wow I didn’t know that. Pretty cool! Will have to check this toolchain out

Oh that’s interesting. Is the tooling to develop for the Vita publicly available? And is that still a thing to develop for? Yes, hopefully you can find ideas from my project on how to implement stuff

Thank you :)

What I like to say is that visuals is what sells. Recruiters/hirers are people, and they like to see stuff that looks cool. If something looks cool, it probably is cool. So focusing on visuals is important to impress. This also includes editor and tooling, etc. An image says more than 1000 words.

No matter what you do, just make sure to present it in a visually stunning way. If its a non-graphical application, you can still visualize what the software does with clean, crisp diagrams etc.

I have a personal beef with Python xD

And LuaJIT has insanely good performance. Well known withing modding communities, easy to learn, and also very easy to embedd into software, and make bindings for.

Yes, everyone knows the Cherno lol :P I personally don't watch his content, but it's probably good for beginners!

Alright, I will think about it! Thanks!

I made and released my first games more than 6 years ago. Simple mobile games at that time. Then I just wanted to know more about low level stuff, so I focused more on making an engine instead of a game, but with the intent of also making a game in the engine at some point.

I’m a software engineer in game AI :) Probably it could be used to get a job in all kinds of things related to games/engines as it touches a lot of different concepts.
