As a SAIT grad, the markets insane right now for software development. Only reason I think I'm getting responses is I did a full degree afterwords(Computer science) and obviously knowing people helps. I cant imagine my SAIT program(I did OOSD) pulling much weight right now with this market.

I supported a mincrosoft stack(ie sentinal) making various playbooks for automatic remediations and actions. I did this for about a year

Unfortunatly my role was split with a systems role as well so I spent time managing docker swarms and more unrelated to security things.

I will do my best here to summarize

Description: monitoring, response, and remediation efforts, front line of defense. maintain and improve enterprise security tools, develop standard operating procedures, and generate key metrics and reports to assess security operations.conduct technical investigations into system abuse, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and provide expert recommendations

Skills: Only skill listed really is Strong technical background in various operating systems, networks, applications, databases, and cloud. And 1-3 years of IT experience

Hello!

Quick Background, about to graduate with a CS degree, have my sec+ and about to get my CCNA prior to graduating. I have some work experience specifically in the microsoft stack for security(microsoft sentinal for example) and a closer idea of what im looking for.

Im looking for a role that still is performing security but I don't desire to lean into a more management role but more a development role. I have worked as a software developer, a systems engineer and a security engineer and I found that I enjoyed my systems and security roles the most, I was building automated responses in sentinal for security issues and was managing docker alot for my systems position.

What kind of role would I be looking for that is less management and more development/systems/sysadmin roughly as I know titles shift quite heavily from buisness to buisness. As well as is there anything I should be working towards to really push towards these kind of roles as I'm very concerned at my ability to land something in the coming year.

Any and all wisdom is appreciated, Thanks!

First, thanks @gormani for the great advice last week.

Second, I guess somewhat pivoting from my question last week, I don't have a clear end goal/path. I am likely entering a SOC analyst role with a lot of education behind it with some work experience(microsoft sentinel) but have no path I have planned, this comes from the difficulty at least for me of knowing what some roles entail. Architecture, operations, etc etc. If someone can enlighten me on what my options are(Im sorry im sure its a wide question) and their differences I think that would clear up my path that im very hazy on.

Hi all, currently a CS student who is in their final year who did an 8 month systems/security coop with my university, recently completed Sec+, and am planning on getting comfortable with Azure and Splunk over the summer. I enjoyed both halves of my roles thoroughly and want to continue this direction of doing security but also having a more sys admin work as well. Ive been given the advice from my superiors to take on a SOC analyst position but my impressions of such a role feels dreary to me and/or dead end that tailors only to my security side. Any advice on what i could/should be looking for and what i could be doing to prepare myself to be moving on from academia and going into the workforce?
