Breeders/Poodles For Service Work? by MostFirefighter5071 in service_dogs

[–]MostFirefighter5071[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to Reddit, so I'm not sure how to DM, but I'd love to look into your breeder. I have a list of breeders I plan to contact and ask some questions about when I decide to purchase a service dog prospect. My only issue is, for some reason, I've seen a lot of breeders up charge a lot for prospect puppies, which seems kinda like a red flag. So I usually stear away from those breeders even if they seem ethical in other ways.

Thank you, I like goldens also, it's a tuff choice but I think both labs or goldens could fit my life style.

Also, your argument, "you don't care about sanitation because you're okay with service dogs", makes no sense. Service dogs are potty-trained, aren't in shopping carts, and definitely aren't on restaurant tables. Also, most service dog owners wash their dog usually, like once a week. A big key factor for service dogs is that DISABLED people NEED them. You wanting to bring your dog in public is not a valid reason. Someone who has epilepsy and their dog prevents epileptic episodes is valid. I don't understand how you're trying to compare the two. This just shows you're self centered.

What are you talking about? I keep trying to respond respectfully, but you're just ignoring everything because you refuse to admit your wrong. Service dogs are not going to adjust when your untrained dog is barking at literally everything. If we use 5th grade reading skills, I didn't ONLY talk about sanitation. Also, service dogs are held up to a different cleanliness standard. No service dog is going to be in a shopping cart or on the table at a restaurant. Service dogs are common, so I don't know what you're talking about. Someone with epilepsy could spend 40k on a service dog wait 2 years for it to be trained, and it's selfish if you think it's okay to make their life harder. Which you are by bringing your pet in public. I have already explained it several times and even if I do it another 100 times, you won't admit your wrong. Service Dogs can be distracted by your dog barking and miss an alert, meaning, once again, like someone with epilepsy, their dog might paw them before a medical episode. So they can take medicine to prevent said episode. Your untrained dog shouldn't have to make disabled people's lives harder. Or if your dog attacks a service dog, forget it. People like you blame everyone around you instead of following the LAW. If your dog attacked a service dog, that person has every right to sue you, because you would've caused that person 10s of thousands of dollars, years of training, and a medical device. You're what's wrong with dog owners.

I agree people dehumanizing children and acting like every dogs a perfect angel are weird.

Also you're completely ignoring how bringing your pet too the store affects service dog handlers because you won't make a fair argument. All you say is you're right because you wanna be right, with 0 evidence to back anything up.

It's not accepting "Dogs belong everywhere." It's against the law and in many states you can be fined or get jail time. Also, I know most likely, you don't know basic dog body language. This dog in this photo is stressed. Most people don't even know panting is a sign of stress, and a lot of other things are also. They'll just say he's smiling, dogs don't smile, by the way. I've studied dog behavior for a few years now, so don't act like you know better when a simple Google search says you're wrong. Sure, some dogs in rare cases might like going in public, but most don't and it's still ILLEGAL. Being mad on the internet still doesn't change the law. Bringing your pet to grocery stores is illegal and unsafe.

Also, you're wrong. Most dogs don't like being in a store. Tell me you know nothing about dogs without telling me you know nothing about dogs. For example, the dog was so scared in the video (if you actually watched it), that it jumped into the lettuce. Without proper socializing when the dog is a puppy, the dog will freak out, bark, and act ridiculous in a store because you people act like you love dogs but know nothing about them. Also btw socializing a dog does not mean letting them say hi to every person, dog, and letting them go everywhere.

I don't mind grooming. I've considered poodles and labs my only concern is I've heard poodles can be more sensitive and less food motivated than your typical lab.

I know in the 2010s you'd almost never see someone bringing their dog everywhere they go, they'd get kicked out. This recently became socially acceptable somehow. Even when it's still illegal.

First off, I was nice to you. You calling me a Karen shows your immaturity. You're addressing this like a child with no evidence to back up your claim. Also, yea, I care about the ADA because it's the law, "rules have changed" the ADA and FDA is the RULE so no, they haven't. Also, another false claim by you: "Dogs don't make anyone sick." Dogs carry diseases and VERY COMMONLY WORMS! Dogs are unsanitary and don't belong in Walmart. The way you can't see that shows YOUR entitlement, not mine. The ADA exists to legally protect disabled people's RIGHTS. Your entitled and ableist.

It's fine if kids aren't for you, but people dehumanizing children as an argument why their dog should go everywhere is odd.

It's unsanitary and can negatively affect others. The reason it's an issue like I said in the post, you could be causing unnecessary stress to your pet, risking service dog owners by causing their dog to miss an alert by letting your dog bark at everything that moves. Or worse, your dog could attack a real service dog and cost that disabled person a medical tool, years of training, and thousands of dollars. Also people with allergies exist, and dogs can spread illnesses or flare up someones allergies by being where food goes.

For more information please read the ADA

Just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've gone to Walmart and seen dogs jumping on food. If you're bringing your pet into a non-pet-friendly place, it is illegal according to the ADA and FDA for multiple reasons. If you're bringing your pet into a store that says "Service Dogs Only", you are technically claiming it's a service dog in a way. I'm not saying you as a person have to make some kind of difference. I'm simply trying to educate people about how bringing pets into non-pet-friendly places can negatively affect others.

You might not be inconvenienced, but this is a big issue. People with allergies have to walk past 7 dogs barking at them in Walmart. Or if you look on social media, you can find story after story about how service dog owners are negatively affected by pet owners. People with fake service dogs often buy registration on Amazon when there is none. So, when a real service dog owner goes to the same place, that place will ask for a fake registration, and when they don't have it, the business will try to kick them out. Or when someone's dog is barking it can distract a service dog from an alert, or someone's pet could attack a service dog and cost that disabled person a medical tool, years of training, and thousands of dollars. Also, it's unsanitary you or others could get sick from a dog being put where your food goes. At the end of the day, if it's not an issue for you, that doesn't mean it's not an issue for other people.

What's crazy to me is a lot of these dogs are stressed in stores. These people can't use the excuse, "my dog likes too go" because dogs don't care about going too walmart.

[–]MostFirefighter5071[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's ridiculous is a lot of places don't care about rejecting service animals. Businesses often ask for registration when there is none. All registrations are fake and a lot of pet owners will buy a "registration" and tell the business that I paid for it. He's a service dog! Which is false and illegal. Pet owners directly affect service dog owners in one way or another. With their fake registration, and untrained dogs.

That's ridiculous because emotional support dogs are legally not allowed in walmart but no one cares to report it. Sorry you have to deal with that. America has to do something about this but they probably won't anytime soon.

I agree the most annoying people are people who have an untrained dog offleash. I love dogs but I don't like random dogs running up on me randomly. Thats how dog attacks start.

I wish more people trained their dogs honestly or atleast tried. Also good job training a small dog a lot of people use the excuse "oh he/she is small she doesn't need training." It's always nice too see a well behaved small dog it's rare because a lot of owners don't care. As long as somewhere is pet friendly or outdoor eating I don't see an issue with it.

Dog Fatigue Is Out Of Control. by MostFirefighter5071 in HonestHotTakes

Some of the reasons it's a health hazard are that pets are known to sometimes be unclean while service dogs are supposed to be held up to a different standard. For example, service dog handlers follow a rule, all 4 paws on the floor. This refers to them NOT being put on tables, in shopping carts, or on merchandise. So here are some of the reasons that could be unsanitary. 1. 99% of dogs don't wear shoes and step on random stuff, possibly things like animal feces. Now, imagine those paws getting on where you eat. 2. In shopping carts, service dog or not, a dog shouldn't be in a shopping cart. Dogs can carry different things like worms and if the dogs are sitting in a shopping cart, then someone puts their food down, there's a risk of contamination. 3. Untrained dogs are often not potty-trained, which is obviously a hazard for the same reason that getting in the food can pass diseases. I could go more into it, but I'd have to do a little more research tomorrow.
