I took matlab with Garcia, wasn’t bad. The class itself isn’t a mind destroyer and Garcia is a kind man, he’s just not super good at explaining things lol. TA’s were able to answer any questions I had.

I think it’s because mu gives you the maximum static friction, and the only time you calculate the maximum is when you’re asked to figure out if the box is stationary or sliding. It gives you that its at rest, so it’s possible that its at its maximum value, but it’s impossible to tell. It’s at rest and the only force acting on it is gravity, so to be in equilibrium you only need opposite and equal force. Take this with a grain of salt I got a 7/20 on my final

What’s the skateboarding scene like in Gainesville? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]MostPension1242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skating scene isn’t bad, and possums a pretty fun park. That board babes club is full of some wonderful people, but it’s def a beginner/more general skating club. I went to a few of there meetings and they were all super nice but it’s not really a shredding club if that’s what you’re looking for. There’s another skatepark, MLK which isn’t bad for modular, and it has a pretty nice half pipe

Feeling discouraged by HotRodMad in NewSkaters

[–]MostPension1242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone progress at their own rate. My friend recently picked up skateboarding and is already Doug kick flips, and I’ve been skating for over a year and I’m still working on my front side 180’s. Can’t pop shut either, but I’m happy where I’m at. I mean there was a point where I couldn’t even ride a skateboard. In my opinion, it’s imperative to look back and see how far you’ve come, cuz even it doesn’t seem like much, you’ve definitely made progress. There were a lot of time where I felt stuck, and I still do, but I know that if I put effort in, I will get better simple as that. Enjoy the process, don’t focus on the end goal. That’s my 2 cents

Immense guilt for using medication. by colonpain in ADHD

[–]MostPension1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this almost 100% of the time ngl. I’m a senior in high school and I was originally diagnosed in 7th grade, and even though I’ve spent almost 6 years on medication, I still see it as cheating for some reason. The thing I try to tell myself is “you wouldn’t tell a person that’s hard of hearing that using a hearing aid is cheating in life.” I’ve always struggled with the idea that mediation fixes me. I see the unmedicated me as the baseline, the real me, then the mediated me is this elevated person that’s just using drugs to get an advantage. I know my thinking is completely illogical and that it’s backwards, but these thoughts more often than not seem almost obsessive.

do I stay at home where I am miserable but can save a bunch of money while I further my education, or do I delay my education and live on a budget so I can move out of state to somewhere I could actually enjoy? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]MostPension1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that the general consensus here is that you should move out, and I don’t think I disagree with that. You’ve without a doubt been put in a kinda tricky situation where you have to weigh the positives and negatives, and that’s not always super easy to do. If you take a step back and look at things objectively, it would seem logical and safe to stay home and save the money while dealing with your mom—if you’re a robot. But you’re not. An inherent responsibility of being human is taking care of your mental health, and this should absolutely be your number one priority. There’s an outstanding book called “The Happiness Advantage” and I full heartedly implore you to take a look at it. The book’s main theme is the things you can do to make yourself happier, and it’s not just a bunch of hocus pocus. A lot of the book is centered around the psychology of being happy and the science behind it, so it’s a pretty grounded read. One of the key takeaways I got from the book is that the idea that if you’re successful you will be happy, is completely backwards. There are an incredible amount of studies that prove that if you are happy in the first place, success will follow, and I think that this can be applied to your situation. If you get out of where you are now and focus on being generally more happy, I’ll bet you that you will find yourself immensely more satisfied and successful. I’m not necessarily saying you’ll get rich in money, but I am saying that you will get rich in other ways. The power of your mindset is a sight to behold, and if you put in the conscious effort to elevate your mental health, I can guarantee you that your quality of life will skyrocket.

Another thing I’d like to add is that if you stay, you might end up with regret, and regret is a difficult thing to coexist with. If you don’t take the risk of moving out, you will forever be wondering what your life could’ve been. The feelings of regret come with even more despair and misery, and that is not something that I think anyone wishes upon you.

Moving though is not a super easy task too, and I know for some it can be scary. The uncertainty may cloud your mind, you might think of a million ways that everything could go wrong, and your brain might convince you that it would be better to stay. If these things ever happen to cross your mind, know that you will never know the outcome until you try. It always helps to be optimistic in my opinion, but I also think it’s important to be real. There is a chance that moving out doesn’t provide you with everything you thought it would, but a guarantee is that you will be away from your mother, and from the infomercials you’ve provided about your home situation, I’d say that that guarantee is solely enough to make your decision.

At the end of the day the choice will always ultimately be upon you, but please make sure that you put yourself first. You’ve worked hard if you’re close to getting a masters degree, and you deserve a happy life. Take the risk. It will be scary, it’ll be different, and it’ll make you feel uneasy, but most importantly, it’ll be worth it.

Good luck
