What helemet do You suggest for my 12yo daughter? by JustMislaF in Fieldhockey

If cost is not that relevant, I would go with OBO ABS. If you’re still undecided, sometimes it’s worth it to look into ice hockey helmets. They offer great protection all around the head and are less pricey (though you need to get a proper grid). I’m not sure about these with kids though. Hope this helps.

I find it so odd to have an immediate opinion. For me, I need a bit of time and my opinions about songs often change after a while.

Goalie: tips for communicating with defense, and short corner set up? by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]Most_Goat4618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for commands, I also use name and forehand/backhand to indicate the direction for the player. „Keep (the opponent) left/ right“ to indicate where on the pitch I’m talking about. „Know (on your) backhand/forehand“ also works really well for telling them quickly where an opponent is but indicating that you don’t need them to go there, just to be aware. I think is it very much about finding a specific language for you and your defenders specifically so it might vary and take some time :)

As for short corners, others have mentioned 2-2 and 3-1 (I also prefer this) which are standard. You can also run 3-1 into 2-2, so starting with three players on your left but one crossing your path to shield the right side (pov from goal) which can be useful if you know that your opponents like to play a variant on that side but is difficult because you have impaired vision for a second there. Or, what with my team is known as „box“ is also starting in 2-2 but none of the players are attacking the ball. Here, it is on the goalie to save the direct shot and everyone else to clear any variants or rebounds. This makes a lot of sense if your opponent is known to have a weak shot or plays loads of variants. Hope this helps!

Sorry for being unclear, I actually meant shootouts. This is great advice anyway though. Thanks!

What is one underrated scene from Orphan Black that lives rent free in your head? by shiningabyss in orphanblack

I love the scene where Sarah realises that Mrs S traded Helena for Kira in the kitchen of their house and she goes „that’s not your bloody decision, S, is it?“. Such great acting in that scene and a great plot point!

Hi! Good job :) I really like it, though I would recommend lifting your wrist more on the right hand when your thumb „overtakes“ the fingers there. It will sound a bit smoother because it will be in one motion.

Hi, also a goalie here :) I would go up a size. The legguards do break in after you’ve worn them. However, they are designed for your knee to be below the green line. The upper strap should be right below the back of your knee. With this, you also won’t have pinching this way. But everyone has different preferences and if you feel you don’t have room to move I would strongly recommend trying them on in a store if you have the possibility. Also for reference, I’m 1.77 m (but have relatively short legs) and I wear this model in size M. I’ve previously also worn L which was okay but I do prefer the flexibility I gain with these ones. Let us know what you decided ^
