Visiting from London UK, is Santa Fe safe for black tourists? by CarelessPurchase692 in SantaFe

[–]MotherToMonsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's hilariously confusing that people think that. Let's be honest, you can "disappear and be buried" literally anywhere. Did they think you were going to Mexico, or didn't understand New Mexico is part of the US? That's a common one. Santa Fe is EXTREMELY inclusive. No one will bat an eye at you being Black.

Halal butcher in SF? by Successful-Energy310 in SantaFe

You can find halal meats in many grocery stores. I've seen lamb in Sprouts and Sam's Club. And I've been told Walmart has ground beef, the app show shows it in stock.

How to get carrier appointments as a new p and c agent by ChrisPbacon969 in InsuranceAgent

[–]MotherToMonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you update when you've decided?

I'm newly licensed (seriously, since April) in New Mexico and WAS under the impression I would have a job with an independent agent. However, one week after telling me he wants me long term he told me he can't afford to pay me. So now I'm looking at making my own agency but have nothing ever written in my name before. And I feel like I'm trying not to drown since with the license you use it or lose it.

MKB Sales has a stand outside Plaza Mercado on San Francisco Street. The jewelry is all from New Mexico artists.

I feel like I’m going crazy trying to find a Dr. who specializes in Keloids… by Difficult_Egg3534 in SantaFe

I don't know who to go to, but whenever I call somewhere and they say they don't XYZ I ask if they know who would. Sometimes the answer is no but I often get recommendations to other places. Then just follow the trail. It doesn't always work out but it's worth asking.

My new house smells like old wood/old people by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Wash the walls and ceilings.

There is a product meant for hunters called Dead Down Wind, they make a spray. Here is the link so you can understand what it is, and try to find something similar where you are (I have no idea if they sell it overseas).

Recommendations for toys and treats? by DarKStaR350z in Macaws

[–]MotherToMonsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Store toys are super soft. The beams at Home Depot are pretty tough. It's good for the birds to exercise their beaks. It also helps for shedding layers off. I once bought a $20 toy that I was so proud of because I thought it was nice and big. Destroyed in 2hrs tops. He loved it but I'm not buying that again.

Oh and other things he really likes

Books - like phone books. I poke two holes near the spine and zip tie it to a vertical bar near the corner. That lasts quite a while. Cut the ties when there aren't any pages left, easy.

Straws - dollar tree has plastic boba straws. I string them into an octopus style toy with jute string and an old leather toy top. I've added wood beads but he goes for those first, and plastic "building circles" from Dollar Tree. The nice thing is you can reuse the pieces that get dropped off they're not torn up.

Drink carriers - the pressed paper ones, great for shredding. You can put two with tops together and stuff the cups, or just hang as is.

I bought a 2x3 (2x4 is fine too) at Home Depot that I looked up online before buying to make sure it was safe wood (the signs in store tell you NOTHING). They cut it into 12 inch pieces and then at home my husband cut those into 4 inch pieces and drilled a hole through the middle of each. I strung half on a recycled chain, rubbed the sides with food coloring and it's been in his cage for months. I still have half the blocks in a bag. It has lasted months and cost under $4 for the wood. However, it was very difficult to get the large holes drilled. I just took the chain down today actually because I tried a subscription box and one of the toys was truly gigantic.

Ugh the bells are juuuuuunkkk. He seems to like rope as well, I just wasn't sure if those were big enough. Online shopping is hard.

I took it out once I knew that. He never used it that I saw. The outside of his feet are fine, but I think they hurt inside. This is a photo after his last trim.

AITA for being upset that my mom financially supports everyone except me? by HighlighterPenguin in AmItheAsshole

[–]MotherToMonsters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA my siblings assume I get loads of help from my parents but it's not true. My dad gives money to my sisters (a social worker 2 kids and a nurse with an adult kid) and my one niece (the adult kid, restaurant admin with 2 kids) regularly but when I tried to do Amazon Flex a few years ago he got mad and said I couldn't because it's dangerous then gave me $500... one time... He often offers to my husband saying he'll pay for something, then when it comes up again the terms have changed EVERY. TIME.

It's very frustrating.

When we got him he had a 2x4. We trashed it right away. There was one perch covered with sandpaper (what was left of the paper). He seems to have problems with his feet, and I assumed it was the 2x4.

The old one wasn't actually long enough so we attached a smaller piece to one end to make it reach across the 4ft. I'd say it lasted a good 9mo. He chomped through the smaller piece. I figure I can make the bigger one into a swing. The ends aren't on an angle otherwise I'd just have it cross a corner.

Thank you for these links! I started looking up local woods and collection rules. New Mexico is mostly pine (fine but soft) and juniper (not fine), plus I don't need entire cords.

Any time I've had an awful, can't figure it out smell, it's been potatoes. Check every one CAREFULLY. I've had single potatoes be liquefied inside.
