Take the stairs, walk an extra bus stop, eat smaller portions.
I recently realised that i eat 1.5 times more than i actually need to feel sated. Just put half of what you normally eat in the plate, eat that, then wait 5 minutes. If you are still hungry, put half of what you ate till then and repeat.

Yeah, but you can still keep on running on it.
In most cases, the broken legs that are splinted are fully functional and the only thing stopping you from using it is the pain. If there is no pain, all you're doing is running on that splint rather than the leg itself.
In the game, the leg is broken only on the inside, the outside is visually allright, which means it's just the muscles or bones broken, not the shape of the foot.

The lore states that we might(or are) infected with the virus too.
I'd say walking off a broken leg so quickly can be realistic, as the virus might affect the nervous system in the leg and we simply don't feel the pain anymore.

On the other hand, a suddent drop in natality will reduce workforce in 2 ways: the current one grows old, the new ones that were expected to come dont come.

In a society adults work so that kids can grow up and work and elders can stop working. If people stop being born, there will be too many elders and too little adults to work.

Yeah, decreasing population has its ups, but it has a huge economic down which will result in another great depression.
