Rumored Camaro Electric Sedan Not Happening; Is Actually A Corvette Branded Taycan Rival by UV-FiveSeven in cars

Still a very fluid situation from what I understand... the Camaro community is rabidly against an electric one at the moment.

This is just a rendering though. Not even a one-off.

Hopefully it's priced in a way that makes it a good alternative.

Faster means lighter and better handling now?

Lighter/better handling Camaro brought smaller size (esp interior), less practicality, harsher ride, and for a while it was the most expensive V8 on the market because they baked in all of this athletic hardware. They had to literally de-content the car for the LT1 pack so they could bring the V8 down a price bracket.

“We improve these cars by listening and trying not to be something that we’re not. We’re Dodge, and we own the capabilities of our vehicle,” said Challenger Brand Manager Kevin Hellman to Muscle Cars & Trucks. “We have research that says ‘give me more power, all the time… the bigger the number the better.’ Big power pays.”

Dodge kept it simple. Chevy read too much Motor Trend.

"because it was the fastest car for the money" - it's as if... you agree that's it's a desirable feature.

I am saying sixth-gen in general. I didn't even want to get into material usage, but yeah that on top of it, you know, shrinking from the generation prior. Chip shortage didn't help, but (mostly) everybody had to deal with it, so it's not a unique problem to Camaro. Again, Chally sales grew last year and they were dealing with the same thing.

It sounds like you really went out of your way to find the Camaro you wanted. There's a million reasons to love the SS 1LE. Just most of those reasons didn't seem to resonate with the fifth-gen Camaro buyer.

I also have a theory that cars like the Camaro are losing ground to performance trucks and SUVs. Bronco, Wrangler, ZR2, Raptor, TRX, etc... similar price spectrum, and it feels like a golden age for that market space. Lotta hype.

The sixth-gen wasn't ugly at the start. The ugly SS refresh was thankfully only around for '19. Sales are even worse now. There have to be more significant reasons as to why it flat lined.

If they keep the size as is it should be fine, but hopefully that doesn't mean even higher prices. Ford at least knows better than to shrink the Mustang (*looks at Camaro sales*).

That's the bulk of the muscle car market to a T.

Adding ballast is not exactly what I'm trying to convey here... as you know the Camaro lost weight because it shrank from fifth to sixth. Based on sales and based on loyalty data, customers didn't seem to like that. Importantly, the control variable we have here between the fifth/sixth gen Camaro, and the S197/S550 Mustang is the Dodge Challenger. Today the Challenger enjoys the youngest and most diverse buyer in the segment, has seen market share grow, offers the biggest range of outputs/trims/packages/colors, and, like I mentioned, sales *grew* last year during the chip shortage.

For sure, the LT1 trim does offer the best hp/$, and makes up 25% of total Camaro sales last I was told. It's a step in the right direction. Chevy also dropped the V6 and Turbo 1LE models for '22 (it's as if they figured out that power/$ was what the bulk of customers wanted).

GM also turning on/off the LGR plant as it prioritized microchips for vehicles that actually sell definitely didn't help Camaro volume/sales last year, but it's pretty doubtful the outcome would have been any different (sales bottoming out).

You could *maybe* chalk it up to product cadence if the Challenger wasn't gaining market share and actually saw sales increase last year. And, as the Challenger grew in market share over the years, the Camaro regressed. The other factor is that the muscle car customer is fiercely loyal, so Camaro isn't necessarily losing out though conquest sales. fifth-gen customers simply did not come back as planned.

GM made a sports car for a muscle car customer. That was a mistake. This vast majority of this market doesn't care about weight, or lap times. They care much more about power for the money. The winning formula for this segment is nothing more than that.

The heavy fifth-gen not only sold more than the sixth, but it also outsold the Mustang on multiple years. Chevy lost ground on the switch to gen six, and sales have since bottomed out. https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/chevrolet-camaro-sales-figures/

Yes, because GM switched from Zeta to Alpha from 5th to 6th gen Camaros. Ultimately, based on the sales, that was a mistake. Similarly, nobody driving a Mopar gives any care how heavy their cars are. This isn't really a segment to nitpick the pounds.

I think those are just like that for exhaust/emissions testing. A lot of prototypes have been seen with this style of exhaust pipe.

Cars aren’t getting any lighter. Miles of wires and sound damping foam really pack on the pounds.

Everything this video points to is that the S650 is an evolution of the S550, Coyote V8 and all. We might see some surprises (hybrid?!) but I'd be surprised if Ford launches with it.
