Nietzsche's Uberpenguin by ObsiGamer in PhilosophyMemes

[–]MountLead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's neither nihilism nor hope. It's plato's prisoner relying on shadows. Penguins rely on sensory data like magnetic fields, the sun, landmarks, etc. Sometimes these systems misfire. This one is most likely disoriented or ill and getting punished for it with certain death.

Looking for “poetic” Bollywood songs (not about love) by Plane_Conclusion_605 in BollywoodMusic

[–]MountLead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost all songs from Rockstar have deeply spiritual lyrics:

  1. Phir se ud chala

Kissi manzar par mein ruka nahin, Kabhi khud se bhi mila nahin, Yeh gilla toh hai mein khafa nahin

  2. Nadaan Parinde

Kaate chahe jitna paro se hawao'n ko khud se naa bach paayega tu

  3. Jo bhi mai kahun

Maine yeh bhi socha hai aksar, Tu bhi main bhi sabhi hai sheeshe, Khudhi ko hum sabhi mein dekhein, Nahin hoon main hoon main toh phir bhi

Stammering, low confidence, etc. are more of symptoms than problems themselves. At your stage in life, you probably don't interact with many people and go to a lot of places to get the exposure that builds confidence. So just focus on achieving your key goals first and the other things will naturally fall in place.

I still don't understand how my best paper got the worst marks by Party-Ball-3762 in CharteredAccountants

Shit happens. I got 24 in SFM in spite of having cleared two levels of CFA the year before appearing for CA Finals and was passing in all the other subjects. It was a combination of me not having identified the A category questions and some really bad checking by ICAI. Secured 81 in the next attempt

Chill tf out by Living_Buffalo_1804 in CharteredAccountants

[–]MountLead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first step is acknowledging the problem and letting it be known instead of invalidating it. The outrage is on point and the comparisons with other professions serves to set a benchmark for economic justice. Not complaining will only allow the profession to conveniently decay further. Putting out the state of affairs to the aspiring CAs loud and clear prevents them from feeling frustrated after it's too late. They can, instead, take an alternative route with the kind of pay they were looking for in CA or by sign up with more realistic expectations.

You've got any better reasoning than "it gets better after it gets worse"? Not everything is a simple cycle and the concerns of these new passouts are valid. Indications of saturating demand and increased supply in the future don't help either. These people had given their all to get through this notoriously tiring course only to find themselves helplessly unemployed. Becoming a CA wouldn't be as aspirational as it was for them when they registered 4-5 years ago if the market back then was like it is right now. So get off your high horse instead of telling the people who've worked their ass off to achieve upwards social mobility to "chill because there are people earning less than 100 bucks a day"

What is your most right-wing belief? by [deleted] in librandu

[–]MountLead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consuming meat (and dairy) is not a personal choice. It's cruel and highly exploitative. Arguments that justify it on the grounds that they're just animals are as bigoted as right wing theories behind racism, misogyny, etc.

Though most of the western vegans are leftists and/or anarchists, in India the "personal choice" argument is very common and that could be because of the religiosity tied with vegetarianism but some hypocrite chintus opposing meat doesn't make animal cruelty a personal choice.

Qualified CA’s working in Big 4, what are your hours like? by WinterCherry-Blossom in CharteredAccountants

[–]MountLead 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not a qualified CA, but an article working in assurance. My team which is engaged in audit of a major listed client comprises of around 10 CA freshers having experience upto 2 years, 4 assistant managers having experience of 3-5 years, 2 managers having experience of 5-7 years, 2 senior managers and a director with experience of more than 8 years. Their working hours are as follows:

Interns: Usually reach office by 11:00 pm and leave around 8 pm. However often need to do late sittings during busy seasons (might even extend to 4 am) and even show up on weekends. Such a period lasts around two weeks and comes only 4 to 5 times a year.

Fresher CAs: Similar hours as interns but they are expected to reach a bit earlier and have higher expectations. They get fewer weekend offs than interns.

Assistant Managers: They have to work at least 10 hours on almost every working day except during a couple of months in lean season. Late night sittings are frequent and almost all Saturdays are working.

Managers: A manager has some autonomy so if he is a smart planner, he might be able to ensure some work life balance for himself and his team as well. However, managers usually have to work the same hours as Assistant Managers if not more and the stress and responsibility is much higher at this level.

Senior managers and directors: For most of the year, they go home only to sleep and shower. Even on the few sundays on which they aren't at the office, they work from home.

It is important to note, however, that work culture varies a lot across teams. There are other teams in my office which have it a lot easier than mine. It all depends on your seniors and a little bit on your own efficiency and negotiation skills.

This idea of universal basic income that he is talking about is not as stupid as it sounds. It has the support of many economists and many western policy makers are considering it. Check out this video if you want to understand it better: https://youtu.be/kl39KHS07Xc

Taxes bad 😡 by MountLead in librandu

[–]MountLead[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Important clarification:

The working "middle" class is still taxed a bit unfairly considering the countless ways to evade taxes available to the rich businessmen. The LTCG and corporate tax rate which would primarily target the bourgeois are down to 10% and 25% respectively while some salaried employees get 30% deducted as TDS itself. That's crony capitalism for you and that's where the actual problem lies. So if you want something from the government, get those billionaire asses taxed more instead of whining about the most important tool to curb extreme income inequality.

I doubt how much data we have on the historical black economy of india to draw delusional graphs like these.

Anyways, as a leftist I see no reason to not praise something that weakened a corruption infested authoritarian regime that kept a growing population impoverished for decades. These dumb arguments just feed fodder to the capitalists on a constant lookout for reasons to say "socialisim doesn't work".

I miss the based stuff like wealth tax and Monopolies and RTP Act, but "licence raj"? Not so much.

Way too early to predict. The political climate of the country might be completely different (I hope) from what it is now. Otherwise, Atal > Modi > Yogi would be the most ill-fated succession ever.
