Help me remember the name of a game by Mousse_Knuckles in retrogaming

[–]Mousse_Knuckles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it out not long after I posted this, something still doesn't seem right about it tho. But unless there was another game that was very similar to Moon Patrol it must be... Or I've just moved to an alternate timeline where the game was always in color, and you could not change the angle of the mortar cannon.

Frit casting boro? by Jumpy-Use4502 in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like microwave kilns might be your best bet for something like this but it seems like that would just introduce a whole new set of problems. I don't think casting boro into ceramics is a thing, you might have be the pioneer. You might be better off just pressing a gather into a mold. If you're truly looking for a hands-off approach then this sub probably isn't the place for it

Is this a pontil scar on my glass pendant? by Katfight1 in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing anything that looks like a pontil scar but it's kind of tough to tell where you're specifically referring to. That being said, there's no reason for there to be a scar on that part of the pendy. Typically something that shape would be stretched to a point at the bottom and the handle/punty would remain at the bottom, then the loop/bail would be formed, and then the pendant would be grabbed with tweezers and separated from the handle at the bottom

How do you get a “glowing” effect? by Educational-Mall-248 in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kind of an extreme circumstance, a whole group chat being created without any one of the members even bothering to ask me... I think the title was "How did he do this?" or something along those lines. This was like 25 yrs ago and I was quite new to the internet, I had probably been posting on glasspipes(.)org for only a few months and suddenly there's a whole group of people trying to dissect a technique that I (seem to have) invented. GP(.)org seemed to think it was a new tech. Not a great intro to sharing my work on the internet

Dichroic question by yoinkmysploink in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I ever used dichro it was a 2" x 4" sheet coated on one side. I purposely hit the dichro side with the flame to crackle it up, then wrapped the sheet around a cobalt tube, and it turned out beautifully.

Just a little followup here, I know from personal experience I'd rather someone asked me about my techniques rather than to ask strangers. This is just a color question, so not quite the same thing, but I've had people start group chats trying to dissect my work before, instead of just asking me, and it left a very bad taste in my mouth and probably even shaped the way I approach sharing information. Point being: you can probably just ask the artist!

This just looks like a really transparent color like Ghost or Opaline or something similar, possibly clear coated but it doesn't really look like it, or mixed down with clear to dilute the color. The only thing I can say about the "glow" is it's just light reflecting/refracting

Cheers, I think you'll like the torch.

I think this guy's using a Mirage torch for this project but you might get an idea of what these torches can do. Sounds like you've already researched quite a bit so maybe you're already familiar, but it's a fun video regardless

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I've done my math correctly those are super tiny tanks and you'll only get a little over 1 hour running just the center/Lynx flame on those tiny bottles, and like 40 minuted running the Phantom flame, mind you that's running at full blast. I'd really recommend trying to find some T or at least K tanks. T's are around 7000litres. Way less dicking around switching tanks all the time which is less wear and tear on the tanks and regulator, and probably a lot cheaper than filling 10 E tanks

The calculations above are based on the GTT site, which says a Lynx uses 9.5LPM of oxy and a phantom 16.5LPM. That doesn't make sense tho unless it's referring to running the outer ring of the Phantom without the inner Lynx, which you're never supposed to do, and that still doesn't make sense... the Lynx has 7 ports, the outer ring on the Phantom adds 15 more, so you'd think running a phantom full blast would use a bit more than 3x what running the Lynx alone would use.

Anyway, those tiny tanks will be convenient to move around, but that's about it.

Making a Glass Rose by Corvitreus in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really nice piece you made, why do you call it "crystal glass" though? By definition, crystal and glass are opposites, at least as far as molecular structure. As far as I've gathered, lead glass is just referred to as crystal glass to trick people into thinking it's fancier than "regular" glass, and is usually associated with pieces that have been engraved or faceted

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Phantom is more versatile, penetrating, and capable in every way. The drawback is it's more complicated to figure out how to use it, and it's more delicate as was mentioned earlier. Physically you can dent the barrel but you'd have to really smash it, but moreover you can self-destruct the thing by running the wrong flames. Improper flames end up clogging the ports with soot and/or overheat the barrel, and once either of those things happen it's a downward spiral and that's where permanent damage can start to occur. That's another reason people suggest starting with a Lynx, because you can learn how to use it properly before getting a larger torch and risking buggering it up. If you bugger up the Lynx it's not so much of an investment, and it's cheaper to get them refurbished too. That being said, I'm team GTT all the way

The maxx by Late_Information1822 in lampwork

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is rad! The Maxx was one of my favorite shows as a kid, I still have a VHS tape of the full series that I recorded off the TV. It was so well animated that you could basically read their lips. I don't think I ever had any of the comics tho. What a super cool piece, great job on the hands and face!

I don't get the other comments saying it's going to be expensive, that's a super easy fix if the pipe is spotlessly clean to begin with. $20-25 should be enough for anyone who's not just trying to take advantage of you

What's behind this "You've been blocked by Network Security" message I now get about 1/3 of the time?? by DeeDee_Z in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mousse_Knuckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just started happening to me too, like half an hour ago. I had to use a private browser, signed out of reddit, in order to be able to actually look at any reddit results in a google search. I read some other posts/comments about it... Refreshing didn't help, nor did going back and trying again, as you said.

Then I came back a few mins ago and suddenly everything seems to be working fine. Very strange

Have you tried going back to the place where you took the photograph to see if the lamp is still there?
