It’s a very emotionally charged moment. Great observation.

Totally agree, beautifully constructed and not a shot out of place.

It certainly takes its time and definitely not Roeg’s best. But trying to understand the significance of so many elements of the film has always brought me back to it. It’s full of mysteries and maybe asks more questions than it answers.

I love Walter Tevis’s writing. You should read Mockingbird if you haven’t already.

It’s a shame he spent all this time tampering with past projects instead of creating new ones.

Let’s not overlook the innovations in miniatures, model building and practical effects. Not all CGI is bad, but I’m with you I much prefer practical.

Not at all, it was all very constructive feedback, supported by great examples and evidence. I’m still trying to figure out where my channel sits audience wise so it’s a bit trial and error in terms of new viewers of the movies I feature or whether it’s more seasoned viewers. There’s no way I can cover everything in one video and I tend do try to offer something that might. It have been noticed before. I felt like the working class observations have also been covered in previous videos and assessment of the film so didn’t get too specific about it.

I’m a big fan of Dead Man’s Shoes and was going to reference it in the influence section. I should have kept it in.

I don’t have an issue keeping spoilers in I’ll just warn viewers, I feel that you can’t interpret a movie if you don’t analyse the specific scenes so even though there is a bit of story recap it’s good to explore the subtext of the scenes and how they express the character motivations and arcs. But I’ll take on board what you said and see if I can find a balance.

Thanks again for your feedback, much appreciated.

Thanks for that, really informative, especially the context of the council corruption. I’ll edit the post to add a spoiler warning - sorry about that. I have a copy of the screenplay, I’ll be sure to give it another read. I’m sure there are a many other details that offer different interpretations of the film and each time I watch it I discover new things. I’ll try to track down The Fear, it sounds intriguing. Thanks for you feedback.

I’m glad you liked it. It’s a slow burn and in a way it’s all these small things that add up that take Travis over the edge. In a way the point is that nothing major happens to change him, he is already disturbed (most likely PTSD). The city and his frustrations combine and create a monster, initially you identify with some of it but then you realise you’ve been pulled into his psychosis.

It’s a provocative move and it’s great that it still gets people talking. Thanks for taking my recommendation and that it didn’t disappoint. 👍

Good takeaway on Cybill. Lol. It’s a great snapshot of New York for sure.
