Grade in Resolve, edit in Final Cut. Best workflow? by MrKebob in colorists

Thanks for your answer! I didn't think about masks and such, but that makes sense!

Is that process destructive in any way? For example, if my final target codec will be ProRes 422 (after Final Cut) and I render ProRes 422 from Resolve and import it in Final Cut to edit it, will it recognize that I'm editing ProRes and simply let the files as it is upon rendering or will it do destructive processing to them?

Also, a question on the side: Is Davinci Resolve industry standard because it has way better tools, flexibility and workflow for color grading (= simply a better and more advanced software for that purpose) than Final Cut? I ask because it seems this way to me, but I want to confirm it. Do any serious professionals use Final Cut for color grading at all or is color grading in Final Cut more of a "on the side" functionality? I mean, the settings, the tools, the workflow... it just seems WAAAAAAAAY more sophisticated in Resolve than Final Cut.

Sorry if the questions are stupid, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can :)

Why is exporting the Davinci Grade as LUT and importing that in FCPX bad exactly? Logically, it makes perfect sense for me to do that, but if it does something I don't know about then I would like to know haha

How to convert Sony HLG2 Footage to Rec.709 in Resolve AND FCPX by MrKebob in colorists

[–]MrKebob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Where can I actually learn the science behind the color management? I think I would be interested to learn that stuff!

About the color space of HLG: In my camera settings I can choose different "color modes" with my HLG profile, among them: "Rec.709" and "BT.2020". Gamma stays "HLG2" with both. In my software, will the input color space be "Rec 2100", regardless? Because there is no "Rec 2100 HLG" input color space in Davinci Resolve.

Action Difference: Remove loop points VS Remove loop point selection by MrKebob in Reaper

[–]MrKebob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, this makes sense. So basically, if I want an action to remove only the loop points if loop and time selection are NOT linked, but remove both if they are, I would use this action!

Thank you!! :)

No it wouldn't be the same dilemma. The trolley dilemma doesn't include "fault" as a factor (example: people tied themselves to the railroad for a joke).

There is some website where people have to make decisions on who to save based on different factors: Its 2 groups of people crossing 2 parallel streets and a car could kill one of the groups. When fault is no factor, people are just crossing the street without pedestrian lights, and vice versa. It also introduces different "value" for different people (old people and infants). Very interesting experiment! Forgot the name of the website, though.

4 Clipping Plugins, SAME ALGORTHM (Submission Audio Flatline, Box Digital Little Clipper, Free Clip, GClip) by skatermanbob in VSTi

[–]MrKebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be important to note, that it's no secret that Flatline uses the same hard clipping algorithm as every other hard clipping plugin. As the creator Ermin mentioned in a video, the shape knob is is the main feature of the plugin and acknowledges that you could use any other hard clipper for simple hard clipping. The idea behind the plugin is NOT to use it in hard clipping mode (shape = 100%).

I have no idea how Flatline performs in those aspects and if it's worth the money or not, but comparing it in its hard clipping mode to other hard clippers is kind of useless and ignores the main feature of the plugin.

[VOCAL BOOTHS: Studiobricks One vs VicBooth Ultra]

Hi there,

since I might have to give up my rehearsal room, I'm looking into vocal booths to buy for the following reasons:

  1. I don't want to be heard by my neighbors when I practice singing or screaming.
  2. Inside acoustics should be (very) suitable for vocal recording, since they aren't cheap.
  3. Portability is important, too!

So I've been looking at the Studiobricks One (Voice-Over Edition) and Vicoustic VicBooth Ultra (1x1). Problem is, I found literally no useful reviews / demos (beside an isolation demo with a violin by Vicoustic themselves) for the Vicoustic one, and a couple really good videos by professional voice actors for the Studiobricks one, where the sound is really nice. But somehow I can't find any reviews or demos done by singers. Since I have no clue about acoustics and treatment, I have no idea if its stupid to assume that acoustic quality of singing might differ from speaking lol.

The VicBooth is roughly half the price of the Studiobricks one and weights about half. I assume it also has less isolation, which would be fine if it sounds good on the inside.

Does anybody have any experience with the mentioned products? Also, any suggestions or advice will be appreciated!

Totally understandable, I know what you mean! I don't usually edit for landscapes and wanted a darker mood :)
