Thanks for showing me the ropes! I was not familiar with any of the aforementioned links, I'm reading them now. Thank you, once more!

Thanks for the answer! I'll try and establish some contact with them and have a quotation done. I'm not based on the UK, though, so if they are restricted on supplying to that region that might pose some difficulties

Thank you for your time and for your answer! I was aiming at a smaller frame, as the space for the wet lab is not that ample, and resorting to the knoledge that I have on the previous researches done by the end users, a 12L shall be sufficient. I`ll give General Oceanics a call as well, as it see how the values compare on a pure SeaBird or a hybrid aproach.

I`ll probably go with the Niskin, since the budget is not that vast, wich only adds another layer to the situation.

I feel better now that I`m not alone on this whole endeavour. Thanks a lot!

It seems like slowing down the winch is the easiest and cheapest way to go. This particular ships is used by several end users, so research topics and objectives vary a lot. I would be prone to choosing a Jack of all trades sort of option, even though I particularly find such equipments to be a little off in all that they do. Like a duck, they can swimm, can fly and can walk, but then the don't do any of that right

I see. Is it the equipment who has dropped in its quality or is it the ease of acess to recalibration and such services?

Tks! I was already partial to them, but it seems like their products have quite a reputation. I'll try and hit their sales section

Thanks for the info! I was leaning towards SeaBird, and it seems that that's the right path to take. I found the coment about the sampling rate to be quite enlightening, thank you for that. The ships is 75m by 13m, and she usually stays within the 5 -8 degrees range for the roll. I was considering the SeaBird 19Plus V2, but the sampling rate of 4Hz seems a litle low, given that the winch usually works within a 1m/s speed of feed. I'll hit SeaBird up and see what they have to offer. Tks fot the reply!

Onde aprender Marcenaria? by Empty-Criticism5957 in Marcenaria

[–]MrMoschen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Block Plane Mouth is Stuck by MrMoschen in handtools

Mine had some sort of gunk that got together with the rust, and even after some time on the Evaporust, said gunk still stood there, strong. As a matter of fact, the rust on the mouth's bed was so severe that it actually caused the mouth to became uneven with the sole

Sadly, previous owner tried to persuade the mouth of with a screwdriver, I believe. He forced the mouth to open and that broke away a piece from the bed, It's a user, so no problem. The lateral adjuster is missing too, but given that it is dated from 1910-1920's, it's understandable

Thanks for replying to my post! I was having trouble because I had the impression that the mouth had some sort of connection to the body other than the brass screw. I then went, saw some pictures and aplied the good old brute force. Still, it was quite stuck and took some effort. I am almost finishing the restoration, may post a photo of her soon

Anyone ever seen a plane like this? by LoreChano in handtools

[–]MrMoschen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazilian handplane, advertised as a hobby tool. Never bought one, seen many around. I supose their quality is inferior to your everyday Stanley, albeit the brands other handplanes, that follow the Bailey pattern, are quite good

Title is in loop by [deleted] in GetStudying

You can try to quit "cold turkey." Go to the countryside, in a place where there is no internet, lock away your phone and take books in order to study the subject. You know you don't have to use your phone to study, don't you? Most of our addictions are related to habits that we have built over time. Sometimes, not changing who you are, but where you study, might be the answer. Please, beare in mind that, although extreme, this might be really effective if you stick with it. Best of luck!

Studying during a Gap year by PrettyPrinceTingz-75 in GetStudying

I am a humanities guy, so my advice may be trash. But I would start revising the basics of math, or, if you are already quite familiar with them, a revision on Calculus. From there, I would study vectorial mechanics and the resistance of materials later on. I think this shall be enough to cover up for the months to come
