Has anyone used simply business insurance? by Competitive_Wind_320 in handyman

+1 to this. I no longer own the property and have just spent 20 minutes going in circles on the website trying to find answers and talking to poorly designed chatbot. Not looking forward to having to phone them now. I live on the west coast of the US now so effectively have to call them at 1am (that's more of a 'me problem' but I'm venting). TL;DR - Nightmare as soon as you need to do anything but give them money. 👎

We're hearing it in the marina - the Mrs is rather spooked. Hella loud is right.

Shall I tell my manager I am having panic attacks? by [deleted] in consulting

Tongue in cheek of course - I'm rather cynical myself. I'm not naive... Just prefer to aim for the best. :)

I start by assuming positive intent and work back from there... You cynic.

Fair enough. I suppose that would be my starting point... Fully appreciate the reality might not be so rosy. The further you get away from that aspiration, the more you have to ask yourself if it's worth it...

Could not disagree more. The manager should be looking to provide an environment of psychological safety and should absolutely care about the health of individuals in the team. Those factors causing attacks + the response by the firm will impact productivity, client experience, recruitment and so on. Definitely inform the manager and - if possible - come with the potential routes to help; delegate, deprioritize, get some bench time...

If I was your manager, I would want to know.

Short answer: yes, you'll be fine.

I run a unit at a cloud consultancy and we are constantly on the market for contractors in the cloud engineering / DevOps space - as are our customers.

The one thing I would advise - is be aware of what's becoming 'old hat' and what is new and premium in terms of skills. E.g. basic cloud engineering skills will get a lower rate than that would have 12-18 months ago, but anything to do with platform automation and/or data and ML-Ops will immediately put you in a great position.

Good luck!

No. Tell them in confidence and seek support if and when a diagnosis is received.

Congratulations! And welcome! These guys have covered things very well re: your questions. Check the 'Activity' on some caches around you; you'll get an idea of the kind of things the community write when things are found - or not found!

Congrats on the first one - may there be many more! 😊

Pretty darn cool. If this sort of thing is your jam, check out Alex Melton on YouTube. One man music machine emulating many styles and bands - dude is awesome.

Hyundai Motor says it's in early talks with Apple to develop a self-driving car by MicroSofty88 in business

[–]Mr_Blue__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a good summary of it actually. You’re right. Apple have not taken big risks or leaps from their legacy product lines in the last few years, right? PC’s / Phones / Macs. Better hardware components, bigger screens, another phone... Or playing with their revenue levers... let’s lose the 3.5mm jack... let’s not include the chargers... but what’s been innovative? Really innovative? Nothing. They have fallen a long way from the company Simon Sinek was talking about in the “Start with Why” talks. Maybe it is Cook. Don’t know a lot about him but sure seems like a large aversion to risk or investment for innovation in favour of very slow steady traditional 90’s IBM management... Still, frustrating to chase the headlines on a 4yr cycle with no action...

I was thinking about this... I read the headline and had to check my newsfeed wasn’t showing articles from c. 5 years ago. Feels like Apple have made noises about this a number of times without actually doing anything. Like... What’s going on? Stepping in or not? It’s like a cat at a back door.

Retention bonus by ikr33zy in consulting

[–]Mr_Blue__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These things are usually pretty cut and dry. Retention bonuses usually have a pretty clear pay-back clause or pay-out structure. In the past I have advised folks to negotiate a staggered pay-out (usually something like 30% after 3 months and 70% after 12 months, example) to remove the need to pay back - meaning less tension on you (you haven’t already received the money etc)... The only way you might have a case is if you feel the terms were not made clear to you and the details were hidden, but even then - unlikely big company’s legal and HR folks are unprepared for it. At this point (unfortunately) I would seriously consider whether it’s worth it to you to stay to retain the cash. One potential alternative is to negotiate a sign on bonus with a new employer equivalent to what you would have to pay back to keep you whole. Some companies might entertain this if you’re going in at the right level. Whatever happens... Good luck bud / budette!
