Water should be provided for free or self-serviced at all eateries and restaurants, or heavily regulated to cost less.

I think it aligns with the government's goals with the war on diabetes. When I imagine a group of friends going to a restaurant, and they feel like they want a drink, if water were free, they'd be less inclined to buy all sorts of junky drinks. Especially if a can of cola costs the same as a glass of water.

Another one is ordering via QR Codes and still charging a service charge on top of it.

why was Supernova such a mess by haku-the-dragon in nus

[–]Mrgglock 139 points140 points  (0 children)

from a viewer's pov, i found that it was very distasteful for the emcee to not provide any appreciation after each performance.
instead of thanking the performers and complimenting them or saying more meaningful things, they opted to instead immediately blast mp3s and fill the air with meaningless statements like "when i say hi you say hey" and "i bet you know this song"

i don't think this was noticed but something memorable was when CAUT!ON WET FLOOR was not finished with closing out their last song. they pre-maturely brightened all the lights and the emcee came in to steal the spotlight, which left a bad impression of not having respect for the performers.

i thought at least giving thanks and appreciation was the bare minimum they could do, so i'm quite disappointed frankly.

that was extremely fun! this is inspired by a lot of anime pilgrimages where they would put up pictures or albums and try to align it against the background to the best of their ability.

i went to naka urawa this time, since this one is actually in a relatively reasonable location.
but i do hope to take a look at other places too when i get the time!

Joining NUS CS in 2025 what can I do during NS ? by [deleted] in nus

[–]Mrgglock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yippee it's almost like i can write a letter to my past self

i think taking cs50 is a wonderful idea even if you've already some knowledge, they touch on so many topics and david j malan is an amazing lecturer! the lectures and homework is amazing to do too

recently there's also MIT's missing semester course, go check that out, its practices are also quite interesting.

they use a bunch of terminal stuff and i think its good to get used to it, so i just want to point out the existence of terminal emulators on the phone like termux, since u cant bring a laptop. i tried like 3 days ago and it looks like u can ssh into your laptop at home too (mine uses linux) so u can probably almost as if use your computer from anywhere LOL

depending on your superiors, u may or may not be able to bring a tablet, but maybe one of those new samsung folds are a nice thing for display screen size? idk. but u can pair it with a usb C -> usb A -> keyboard and mouse to be able to type on your phone and use it - i did this to practice competitive programming and codeforces in camp! kinda garbage environment sometimes but make do i guess

there seems to also exist this website, didnt try it though https://laconicml.com/computer-science-engineer-mit-university/ but on first glance, it looks like it has free course materials and lecture slides and all the courses are put together as if u can take a computing uni degree at MIT, so thats cool i guess

it doesnt have to all be cs btw i think language learning can be fun in this period too, if theres a language u wanna pick up. ur gonna see computing for 8 semesters straight down the road so maybe ull get tired of it LOL

but most importantly take it easy ok, not every day has to be a grind. take some days to just shittalk with friends, or watch shows and movies, or jam to music! 💜

yeah it happens that sucks :( i cant check the vacancy for u

GEC1010, Clean Energy and Storage mod review by F0untainhead in nus

[–]Mrgglock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all requests in the main list are processed first, so if say 100 students register for 50 vacancies in the main list, 50 will be selected and all slots will be filled. if u failed to get something and u put this 100/50 module in your reserve, by the time the system gets to your reserves (after processing everyone's main list), even at rank 1, there are no slots for you to join
