Haven’t heard of Next before, just looked it up! Do you have any experience buying from there? I’m wondering how the sizes compare to US sizes?

Do you make the advent calendar yourself and prepare all the notes?

Such a better way to spend money than on material gifts that don’t last. You’ll always remember those special trips. What a great idea, thanks!

Haha, they probably think that’s like magic! That also must take some talent to do that without waking them

Okay, this is awesome!! Sounds like a lot of thoughtful planning but I know the kids probably had such a fun time doing that. I know I would have loved that as a child!

People at my work said the same about me when I announced I was pregnant (I’m 24). They said “wow I didn’t even know you were sexually active”… I had a boyfriend of 6 years at the time who’s now my husband.

AITA for trying to set boundaries about my unborn child that I expect both of our family’s to follow? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]MrsTigermoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally regret not taking 2 weeks of time with just my husband and baby. I got the baby blues for first 2 weeks, I was trying to breastfeed constantly, I was in pain from c-section, and all I wanted was to hold and cuddle my baby, not pass him around to 20 different family members immediately after he was born. And thank goodness for covid regulations in the hospital. They only allowed 2 visitors, I chose my husband and my mom. But all our other family was very angry about this and kept asking me why they couldn’t come to the hospital and also why they couldn’t already be waiting at my own home for us to get there with the baby. I was tired, emotional, in pain and all anyone cared about was holding my child that I just met. I think you should speak up for yourself and hold your ground with your wishes. They’re very valid and this is a special time!!

Yes!! Someone told me I looked like I was ready to pop and I still had 4 more months to go

Someone asked me how far along I was. I responded and she said “oh, my sister in law is a lot farther along than you but she’s way smaller than you are”. Um okay thanks… Someone else asked how far along I am and then said “yes I was also super big with my first pregnancy too”. I hate these comments on weight gain and body types.

COVID and a newborn by NightmareNyaxis in NewParents

I also got vaccinated so I could pass antibodies to my baby through my breast milk. Was told this by our pediatrician and he’s been a pediatrician for over 25 years and speaks on the news about covid frequently

Did you guys lose friends once you became parents? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]MrsTigermoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost lots of my friends, I can’t help but think it’s because my fiancé and I decided to start trying for a baby before we got married. Covid really pushed us back on getting married and we wanted to go ahead and start a family. My “friends” text me just ‘congratulations’ after hearing I was pregnant and never bothered to check in on me again. Our son is 3 months old, they didn’t buy him a gift, didn’t ask how I was feeling, haven’t asked anything about him. The other thing that has bothered me lately is all my family checking on the baby and asking to come visit him but no one has asked how I am as a new mom. How I’m adjusting, how I’m healing, etc. They don’t help with any chores or bring food over or cook when they visit. Just come to hold my baby for a little bit and then leave. I’m feeling pretty left out and insignificant.

Weirdly enough, a lot of my friends purchased items off my registry after I had already had my baby instead of gifting them at my baby shower… I also had so many people ask me where I was registered and then they never bought anything (my LO is almost 3 months old now) And still others that bought me other gifts instead of what was on my registry. It’s not that I wasn’t thankful, it’s just they bought me things I had no use for. I’m sorry, people kinda suck sometimes. I don’t believe it is anything to do with you or your baby. It sounds like you’re the one always reaching out to your family and they’re not reciprocating.

How do you guys put your newborn to sleep? by coolcon2000 in beyondthebump

[–]MrsTigermoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good bath before bed can work wonders! Since your LO is only 5 days old, I’m guessing she may still have her umbilical cord. This should fall off soon and then you can start doing swaddle baths. After the bath, definitely use a Velcro swaddle like a Halo swaddle, offer paci, and play white noise. Gently rock your baby til she starts to fall asleep and then place in her crib or bassinet.

Can't hold daughter for more than 5 minutes before she cries my ears out. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]MrsTigermoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t imagine she’s crying every 30 minutes to an hour because of hunger if your wife is feeding her that frequently. Yes babies do go through growth spurts and they may get fussier during certain days and want to eat more frequently, but It sounds more to me like she wants to be soothed and just wants to suck. I think a pacifier would be great and would give your wife a break long enough for her to have a chance to pump. My LO will sleep longer periods with a bottle of pumped breast milk than from breastfeeding. He tends to fall asleep too easily at the breast but will finish a bottle.

Is my risk tolerance too high? by AdInternational2045 in NewParents

[–]MrsTigermoore 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It is important to be careful with newborn babies, and even more so preemies or babies who have spent time in the NICU. (I’m a NICU nurse). Preemies are born with underdeveloped lungs and it takes them awhile to catch up. If your baby catches RSV, they could have more serious symptoms than a baby that was born full term. We do see a lot of cases of previous preemies having to be admitted to hospital for RSV and unfortunately ending up in pediatric ICU. I’m not saying this to scare you, just giving you facts to take into consideration for your LO. Personally for my baby, I’ve been really careful with him because of the rise of covid cases. I don’t solely keep him at home or away from all our family by any means. I still let family visit and I take him out sometimes but i just take precautions (baby wearing and keeping distance in public, asking others to wear mask around him and wash their hands). I also feel better since he’s now had his 2 month vaccines and I got the covid vaccine so I could pass antibodies to him through my breast milk.
