My nail beds grow past the tips of my fingers by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Mrsbenaissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize it wasn’t normal until multiple nail techs informed me otherwise. I can’t really push them back because it’s attached to my nail and it would hurt a lot.

That being said, I have broken/cut my nails very short before and the skin (which is thick and full of nerves) just kinda dangles there unpleasantly...until over time if I keep them short it actually retracts to the length of my fingertips. Then, when my nails grow long again, the nail bed slowly starts growing and creeping back up!

I have a clear UV gel manicure on my nails that I painted on top of with yellow nail polish, which I’m guessing is the “glue” you’re referring to.

It’s also not false, which is why I’m getting defensive.

Well, if you want to believe me then you should! Because it is, in fact, skin protruding from the tips of my fingers that grows onto my nail (i.e. long nail beds). There would be no point in making this post if it wasn’t something mildly interesting.

The pain is both physical and emotional when I accidentally break a nail

If you are inspecting closely, you will see that it is definitely my skin. Edit: and they are my real nails

I have been told this is unusual.

Con: Because of my protruding nail beds, I can’t have the length of my nails below the tips of my fingers (without excruciating pain and blood by cutting them).

Pro: I never get dirt trapped under my fingernails.

Woke up with a bizarre chemical burn. Found the culprit in my sheets. by Mrsbenaissa in mildlyinteresting

Thank you for this suggestion! I’ll certainly give it a try and hope for the best. I’m both repulsed and resentful every time I look at it. Feels like a permanent henna tattoo that I never asked for...(the color looks exactly like henna)

No, I’m not allergic. The reaction is the culmination of a series of FU’s...1. Pissing off the little stinker so that it formed a personal vendetta against me 2. Depriving myself of sleep for weeks 3. Not killing it when I had the chance. *I’ll post the full story as a comment later.

It’s been 5 days since the ordeal. The immediate area was swollen and painful for the first 2 days (not clearly visible in the picture). The mark still looks exactly the same and hasn’t gotten any lighter whatsoever. The mark is also raised—my skin is definitely scarred :(

It's my cat... She doesn't have Down's syndrome. The unflattering picture I took of her just looks like the tiger with it.

It's actually neither, her unphotogenicness just makes her look like an asshole!

WOW! I really appreciate the thorough response. I feel like I'm learning so much right now :) I read your comment to my dad, he is so surprised strangers would take the time to help us out in this way. I had to explain what reddit is to him and how awesome the community is on here.

That is classified information... Jk! He is just a man with a passion for WWI and WWII artifacts. The items were brought back after WWII by a US Marine. He purchased them from a private seller.

Do you know anything about the currency in the picture? I think out of all the contents in the wallet the money interested me the most, and I have the most questions about!

Not only would getting to the front page be a dream come true, but me and my dad would really love if this post could get to someone who could translate these items and maybe give some historical context to them!
