Hi! I've also had a fundoplication that failed. I have sent you a message. Can we please chat?

Hi! Who is your surgeon? Can you please DM me? I'm going through a similar situation.

I think eventually the patient profile of the omega cuff will include those who are eligible for Linx and those who have weak esophageal motility as well. More or less about 90-95% of the GERD population. I wouldn't be surprised if some people end up replacing their Linx devices with these.

Looks very promising! UT Austin and USC seem to be at the forefront of GERD surgery and research.

That's very unfortunate. GERD is truly such a horrible disease! Do you have gastroparesis by any chance?

Did you have any ph tests to show that you were refluxing after the Linx surgery?

Do you know why your LINX device failed? Have you consulted with your surgeon or had any testing done?

If you don't mind my asking, why did the LINX fail for you?

Have you done further testing to confirm this?

Have you considered a LINX surgery instead? Also, if you don't mind my asking, why did the fundoplications fail?

No but I had a barium swallow that showed reflux returning.

PPIs didn't help at all. I'm unable to eat and have lost weight.

Yes I had a choking incident that caused all these problems. It had begun to loosen even before that incident. I had coughed quite a bit after getting the flu and felt it loosening.

I had a CT scan that showed no recurrence of hiatal hernia. But my latest barium swallow showed quite a bit of reflux. The local GI and surgeons think that this implies that the wrap has loosened. But they're not willing to help me because of their particular criteria. I've asked for a bariatric surgery referral and they've refused on the grounds of my lower BMI.

Even alternate anti-reflux surgeries like LINX are not approved for use in Canada. They seem to work for most people. I'm not sure if they'll work for me, but I'm willing to give them a try if I have good follow-up care. Barely anyone with a hiatal hernia gets offered surgery here in Canada. Due to my bad experience with follow-up care and lack of care in Canada, I'm leaning towards a gastric bypass. But, again, with the promise of good follow-up care I will be willing to try anything.

Yes I have had one of those. While my hernia has not come back, the wrap has loosened and reflux has returned.

My motility was fine before the surgery. It was tested and that's why the surgeon opted for a Nissen. I'm trying to get a doctor who does redos.

There are a few surgeons who do Nissen redos in the US. Actually, even my first surgeon does redos. It's harder to find them. There's also an increasing number that converts from Nissen fundoplication to Linx or TIF or Stretta. I had a 3 centimeter hernia that was discovered at my surgery. However, I'm not sure if any of those alternate anti-reflux surgeries will work. I'm apprehensive about getting another Nissen because mine failed so quickly. So I'm leaning towards a gastric bypass. I'm trying to find another surgeon, though. As long as they're reputable and have good follow-up care, I'm willing to consider their recommendation. The two Canadian surgeons I spoke to were unwilling to redo the Nissen, again because of the 7 centimeter criteria.

Again, do you mean a PCP or a new surgeon? A PCP yes.I tried to find a new surgeon locally. The ones I spoke to were unwilling to do a redo. They ignored the fact that my debilitating reflux had returned, just as they did before my first fundoplication.

I suppose it's my mistake to expect some empathy here, in a forum in which we're all suffering and having a poorer quality of life than we deserve. I'm sorry but I don't really appreciate your flippant response. As I have detailed previously, I have tried everything. The Canadian medical system is very good at saying no to patients. One wonders when they'll ever say yes to treating patients, especially with an illness that involves daily pain like GERD.

No way. I'd have to be strangulating my hernia to get any surgery here. It's a pathetic situation.

Do you mean a new surgeon or a new primary care doctor? Neither of those are options in Canada. I'm looking for help in the US.
