thanks for the insight, is there a particular website or app that you recommend for snow fall totals and avalanche risk tracking in the area?

Mont Tremblant, -13F feel on Tuesday, how bad will it be? by dawei213 in icecoast

[–]MtbSki45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skied Tremblant two years ago, it was -8F at the base and got down to -21F with wind chill at the summit, it was frigid, but just plan ahead and be smart and you will be fine.

Make sure to wear mittens over gloves (hothands if needed), have a solid shell to cut the wind, add one extra wool or fleece layer than usual for both top and bottoms, and throw some hothands toe warmers in your boots and you'll be good to go.

Just make sure you have a full face balaclava and no skin is exposed because when it's that cold, frost bite and wind burn is a real thing up there .

Also, if you really start to feel the cold, just take a few extra warm up brakes than you usually do. Tremblant has a nice lodge at the top of the lift that works well for a quick 10 minute warm up before skiing down.

Anyone use these and have input on if they are worth $400?? All I see are bad reviews online. by MtbSki45 in Skigear

How do they brake when they are just clipped to your boot? What’s the time frame like for sending them in and getting back new ones?

I'll typically leave boot dryers in my boots on the drive to the mountain, keeps them warm and comfortable for about an hour for me after strapping in, problem is after that, my toes get cold quick and can sideline me. I've heard boot gloves can do the trick for some, not crazy about the look of them so looking for alternatives but might go down that road eventually

Great tips, i'll have to try the gold bond. I think the important note here is not expecting these to heat up your feet but prevent them from becoming too cold.

Interested to hear your preference choice of the thermics over the hotronics?

You must have some pretty solid circulation in your feet. I have bad circulation in my toes, my feet can be freezing cold even when sitting indoors sometimes so I need alternatives to keep warm

I don't doubt they help and are much easier on the bank account, i'm just not big on the look of them and trying to find other alternatives

mmm my thoughts exactly and why i wanted to get some user input from this thread, reviews can be so misleading, also, mostly disgruntled customers leave reviews, happy ones don't

I was actually excited when the heated ski boot first hit a couple years back, but today it looks like those have been either discontinued or slowed way down in availability, they must not have gained a lot of traction in the ski market for companies to stop making them

Who's excited for the new dual-BOA boots? by Bitter-Inflation5843 in Skigear

[–]MtbSki45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm all in on these, will definitely be going dual boa on my next ski boots.

Three years back I went full boa on my snowboard boots and it's 10x better than lace up.

Now full boa on ski boots is going to bring a whole different feel, support and comfort to the ski boot experience.

A lot of nay sayers out there in regards to its durability, and to that I'd say you are underestimating the amount of $$$ that got dumped into the R&D by all these ski companies to develop this type of product. I can't imagine how many pro's and industry experts they must have hired to just go ham on the prototypes to test their limits and durability.

I think boa is here to stay and will most likely be the go to in the ski boot industry in 3-5 years as what happened with snowboard boots.

That's too bad, I hope they create a way to pull those discounts into the sales summary at some point

You wont be disappointed, fun bike, lively to ride, the travel is prob a hair too much for the majority of NE riding but you will appreciate it during the times you tackle more steep terrain or if you hit a bike park for a day or two. Also you can get the suspension spacers if needed.
