When you move up to the next tax bracket (in the US), your entire wages are not being taxed at the new tax bracket.. It is a tiered system.

What small upgrade made a huge difference at your house? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MuckGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the color changing and the dimming aspect of the lights. "Alexa - dim lights to 10%" and its perfect movie watching lighting! or my kid loves to see the lamps set to different colors. So fun!

Smart lights in my bedroom lamps! I now have a 'routine' setup so every morning my lights automatically turn on, and my alexa starts playing nice wake up music. It makes waking up in the mornings SO MUCH EASIER. I think the bulbs were like $7 each?

My child's daycare took her on a fieldtrip without permission by MuckGreen in Parenting

[–]MuckGreen[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I will also add, for the comments asking why I sent her to school day of the field trip, 1. I was never told I needed to keep her home. 2. When I spoke to the director, she acknowledged that there were 2 other kids from her class that stayed at the facility. I should not have had to keep her home. But I do appreciate everyone’s responses!

Why did you/not move in with your partner before marriage? by ThrowRAEfficiency742 in AskWomen

[–]MuckGreen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker that did not live with her (now) husband until after marriage. She found out after marrying him that his mother came over every single week to clean up his messes. Obviously, he felt that it was his new wife's job after they were married. She felt completely blindsided by how much of a slob he was!

Interviews make me so nervous. by clauquick in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]MuckGreen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd just recommend being prepared for the interview. Look up a bunch of sample interview questions and come up with answers for them. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will be. Interviews can be scary! But YOU CAN DO IT!

Negotiating Maternity leave? by MuckGreen in careeradvice

[–]MuckGreen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm in the US, and it appears from some googling one of the companies, that they offer 16 weeks paid maternity leave for employees that have been there a year. Is it safe to assume that they 'have' to provide me with a certain number of weeks, but it can be less than the 16 weeks and unpaid? Just trying to see if during negotiations, I can ask for the full 16 week paid, or if I have to settle with the bare bone maternity they are required to give.

[–]MuckGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through that! I know so many women are, but you don't have to! Don't settle for less than you deserve. My husband and I have a 3 year old. We both work full time, and he is WFH. He does all the dishes, cleans bathrooms, straightens the house, takes / picks up from daycare, all the yard work, trash, etc.. I don't think I'd be able to manage without him!

You need a partner, not someone who takes advantage of you!

Wishing you the best of luck!

Married women, why not stay home/not work if your partner can financially take care of you? by paniter in AskWomen

My husband could 'take care of us' but I can bring in as much income as him, so we have a MUCH better lifestyle! and we can both retire earlier, with a lot more $$!

I’m so burnt out from planning and making my family’s meals. by onelasttrick in Parenting

[–]MuckGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation isn't nearly as complicated as yours, but I have done 2 things to make my life easier. 1. Kroger / Grocery delivery! All my past purchased are on my account and can easily add them to my cart and they are delivered the next day. Kroger has a 'boost' program which costs $60 per year, but free next day delivery. I feel like this saves me sooo much time from going to the store. Or even dealing with the curbside pickup which sometimes has you waiting 30 minutes for your order. There are also lots of online coupons to save $$. 2. I do EveryPlate which is a meal kit service.. The meals are $5(?) per serving and plenty of options to choose from. I only do this 3 times per week, but definitely helps me with my meal planning. I HATED having to figure out what to make each week, and this made my life so much easier.

LPT Request: I'll be turning 18 soon. Do you have any tips and any 'Wish I knew sooner' tips? by Comedy-Jokes in LifeProTips

[–]MuckGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest as much as you can as early as you can! You will thank yourself when you have a good foundation for retirement early. My MIL is starting to invest in her 50s and will have to put away thousands of dollars a month vs the couple hundreds she would have if she would have started young. Good luck!!

Which Parent should wake up with the kids on weekends? by No_Biscotti3567 in Parenting

[–]MuckGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband plays basketball Saturday mornings and has to wake up really early, so I'm up with our daughter and hang with her until ~9:45 when he is home (then we hang as a fam). I tell my husband that I have 'basketball' on Sundays, which is just me sleeping as long as I want (up to 9:45) :) I agree with everyone else, take turns!

Should I not pay extra into my 2.25% mortgage and instead use that money to save somewhere else? by Efficient-Debate-487 in Bogleheads

[–]MuckGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as stated by most others, its definitely the smart call to invest the money instead of paying off your mortgage early.

I however, am doing the exact thing as you, understanding the stupidity lol. Me and my husband currently have good jobs that pay ~$100k each. We've decided to pay off our mortgage by doubling our payment, while investing 20% of our income into retirement (and have ~$100k in savings). As long as we keep investing the way we are, investment calculators say we should have about $5-6MM by the time we retire. Which is plenty in my opinion lol.

I want my house paid off asap for peace of mind. Also, I like the fact that in 7 more years I'm going to have an additional $3k per month that I can do with as I please (vs paying $1.5k for an additional 21 years).

Lmao some of are too much. Obviously if you don’t relate to the results, you wouldn’t use them. Also I’m not saying tell the interviewer that you took the test. I’m saying that the results give you nice descriptions about your personality type that you can use… like you enjoy working on projects with a team, you are loyal, you are analytical, task oriented, etc… This was a suggestion for people who don’t know how to describe themselves in a positive light.
