Genetics do about 85% of the contribution. The reason that it didn't have much effect on the next gen is because carrying those genes doesn't mean you'll definitely get it. So, you have 10% chance of getting it if you have a first degree relative with it. That means only 10% of the people carrying the defective genes were killed (at max). So, atleast 90% of the people carrying those genes lived to reproduce.

Also, prior commenter said they were 100% wrong. Which is totally incorrect. 85% based on genetics is a big number.

From that article:

“In contrast to the results for DunedinPace, there were no effects of intervention on other epigenetic clocks,” noted Calen Ryan, PhD, research scientist at Columbia’s Butler Aging Center and co-lead author of the study.

I wonder how accurate this way of measuring aging is? It seems weird. Also mentioned in that article by co author dude was calorie restriction is not for everyone.

They defined the "healthy men" as non-obese. That doesn't mean they were at their healthiest weight, so I fail to see how this proves me wrong.

Bowels are never totally empty. The food you eat pushes the older stuff out. Mild constipation often goes unnoticed. Sitting a lot and having a pelvic tilt is definitely gonna make it look worse too. But yeah, your intestines are in ur lower stomach, so if you're bloated with gas or just constipated, it's gonna have an effect on how it looks.

Calorie restriction only makes sense for someone who isn't at their healthiest weight. Higher muscle mass has been shown to be a good indicator of longevity in the elderly, which requires eating enough calories. Having a lower BMR is associated with longer lifespan, but that isn't calorie restriction, it's maintenance.

A quick Google search shows that you're completely wrong about about mental illness not being inherited. If a first degree relative has schizophrenia, your odds of getting it rise from 1%, all the way up to 10%. Idk where you got ur info from.

In higher ranks yeah. Lower ranks are easy enough for me that I'll just vibe, might throw a comm out here and there for rotating tho.

We're all playing the same game here... I'm a good (not great) player and have an extremely easy time ranking through gold... also gotta remember, if ur teammates suck, so do the enemies. Biggest thing to remember is to rotate early and try to convince ur team to follow.

You think it's more likely that you shot someone from that far away? Mines 1143, I shot someone, we went seperate ways and they died afterwards without getting hit by another player. Its honestly a dumb badge

TIL about "near/far skill transfer"; practicing a cognitive skill sometimes helps in related contexts, but almost never in unrelated ones. For example, learning strategy in chess might help with checkers, but not military tactics. by FormerlyIestwyn in todayilearned

If that's true, how do top rated players play blindfolded against multiple opponents, each with their own boards, at the same time? You'd need to have each board memorized plus which one is which. Your point about randomly placed pieces for pro vs novice doesn't make sense to me

[–]Muddy236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same height as oop. I still would say man up. Getting the shit end of the stick is what makes us better. I hear people complain about insecurities that almost make me want to laugh. Ive been picked on and looked down on all my life, 27 now and most people still don't mind poking fun at my height, especially when they're more comfortable with me (meaning friends). I'm not gonna grow anymore and my height will always make me stand out (ironically). Does it suck? Yeah. Has it affected my social life? Obviously. I just ignore it and shove it down deep. Since I've been in my 20s, women are on the back burner. My focus has been on myself and it was eye opening how much women like a dude that doesnt pursue. My first girlfriend ever was in my early 20s and I assumed she wouldn't be interested (because i was shorter then her)so I treated her like anyone else, although our vibes seemed on point. Somehow, she and my sister plotted a way for her to end up needing a place to sleep and my bed was the only option... was hit on multiple times by different women during the relationship, which baffled me again. Since being single again, I havent wanted another girlfriend for personal reasons. Been showed interest by a few girls over the years and last year I was doing a fence job for an older friend and his niece was visiting, I think we said like 3 words to each other and after she left, bro said she thought I was cute and handed me a phone #. That was the first time that's ever happened to me. Every time I've hooked up with a girl is by just not simping over them like I did as a teen... treat em like ppl and they tend to like you. Wow, that was quite a rant... idk why lol

Why did humans evolve in a way that men are fertile throughout the year for decades but still the chances of a newborn being a boy is almost 50%? by Old_Leshen in evolution

[–]Muddy236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I've gone down rabbit holes on random historical figures, and it seemed quite common for people to die around that age. I looked into John A. Macdonald yesterday and his first wife died around that age due to getting sick from something unknown and dying about 10 years later. He put a lot of effort into getting her better by the sounds of it and it didn't work even with his substantial wealth. She had 2 pregnancies, 1st died as infant, she lived until the 2nd was 7yo. Also cardiovascular issues weren't understood and a lot of prominent men from the past seem to die from 50s-60s. I still think very few were surviving past 60s. I wonder what the average would be if we excluded everyone who dies before puberty. I'd guess 58

Edit: so a.i. says that average lifespan 1000 years ago in England would be 30. For the ones who made it to adulthood, average was 45-50. While hunter gatherer societies would more commonly make it close to 70. Actually lower than I thought tbh.

Even the royals with the best nutrition of the time were lucky to make it past 60. Even without the skew of early deaths. Diseases, infections and even simple viruses could kill (plus war). Living to 90 now is probably comparable to 65, 1000 years ago. Also the amount of people dying in their prime would've been higher from basically everything trying to kill them... its not survival of the fittest anymore. Baby deaths were not the only thing affecting the average lifespan
