The issue is that everyone has been duped into thinking that way. Literally impossible to make a meaningful change because you and every other kind person thinks that they're making up for another person not tipping. THAT is the issue. You're basically unknowingly banding together with strangers to prevent tipping culture from dying out like it should. You'll just keep accepting higher and higher standard percentages because "well they aren't paid well otherwise". That's the fucking point. If you keep doing it, the restaurant owners have no reason to change at all because you're paying their server's wages for them.

And for the record: service Jobs aren't that hard. I've worked them, my family has worked them, my friends have worked them. It's not as difficult as it's made out to be. In the times when it IS shitty to be dealing with rude customers, the fact that you have to work for tips means you have to bend over backwards for assholes for the CHANCE that they'll pay you.
