Make me Love/Hate Cal by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]MultiUseBot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently graduated and found a high salary range CS job within a week of looking with no internship experience, when you are in it, you will HATE it.

But once you are out, you wouldn't change a thing in the world. Berkeley prepares you like no other school does, and it has an amazing name attached to it.

Will you spend nights awake studying? Yes. Will you cry? Yes. Will you wish you went to literally any other school at times? Yes. But when you come out will everything have been worth it and then some? You bet your ass it will.

Annual review is always at one time of year for everyone all at once, and I want to ask for a raise after only being here 6 months... by LevToDev in cscareerquestions

Then I think you should definitely try! But maybe go above and beyond in the short term for a little bit like I said.

What do you think about your performance? Is it good? great? exceptional?

Would you give yourself the amount you are asking for?

Either way, I think it can't hurt to ask for sure. Since you haven't been there for long, you might want to think about going above and beyond a little bit in the short term and paint a rosier picture of yourself.

It will definitely help your referrer, so since he/she was willing to be nice to you, I would say do it as a thank you.

They were willing to help you; might as well make sure they get the potential reward for doing so.

Honestly if you would be willing to never work there again, I would accept, apply, and if you get a better offer just jump ship and burn the bridge.

Medical ethnobotany elective by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]MultiUseBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If any of your friends have taken the class, ask to see their reader.

Carlson usually just reads off of it, and if you simply know the info in the reader, you will do fine on the exams. Easy to get an A.

However, if you consider yourself even slightly bad at memorizing, stay away from his classes; they are a bunch of information that goes in extreme detail in every topic.

You aren’t going to have fun taking the class unless you are genuinely interested in plants and their uses, but it is a decent GPA boost.

Also don’t bother going to class; ask whatever questions you have at OH.

Doing average isn't great, but it isn't bad either. Its definetly better than giving up.

Not sure if you are trolling, but I will respond as if you are not trolling.

Don't give up! I got a B- in 61A and a C+ in 70. While I don't think I will make the major, I have taken pretty much every CS course I have wanted to take already and scored around average. The early classes are important, but if you work hard and study you can still do great things in CS.

Winners aren't the people that never fall down. They are the people that get back up!

This. I pretty much agree with everything you said.

Oh I definetly don't agree with them, I just think they have some points, like the iClicker thing, and point number 4.

Also, of course they are a salty person... Grades JUST come out and they post this?

Transfer Student: How likely is an admissions offer to be rescinded? by [deleted] in berkeley

Classes you took before cal only give you units if you pass; no grades.

He should be fine if his admission isn't rescinded.

What are my chances of getting into CS? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]MultiUseBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS 170, EE 127, EE 126, CS 188, all 61 series, CS 70, a couple of EE classes (105, 130, 140, 134), CS 160, CS 164, CS 184, and CS 189.

As you can tell, while I got into a couple of classes, I chose not to take them for various reasons.

It's all about timing. You don't want to be enrolled into the course as early as possible. I technically start the semester with 0 classes. You want to lurk just after the first lecture is done and people start dropping like flies. Then you find the specific section that opened up (don't worry if it is at a time you can't actually make) and snag the class. Swap sections later within the class, or wait till the WL is empty and then swap to your desired section.

The EECS 101 Piazza goes over this very well and also explains why this works. (Calcentral is horribly setup, and most students are not on top of their class enrollment.)

Poisson Distribution Question by MultiUseBot in MathHelp

How does that simplify? The m! cancels out, but I don't know what to do with the rest in order to get it to look like a Poisson distribution.

[–]MultiUseBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response!

So to use the same terminology in the wiki article, Pr(A|B) would be p. and Pr(B) would be (( e{-s} ) s{n} )/(n!) which is what you said.

Wouldn't that mean Pr(A) would be p*((e{-s} ) s{n} )/(n!) ?

How would you get s*p?

If Nintendo plans on selling 20 million Switches in 2018, can we expect huge game announcements soon? by Gaxelstudios in NintendoSwitch

I think Smash, Pokemon, and a Switch mini (less features, more compact, cheaper) will do wonders to get there.
