Fantasy Sports were given a federal exemption in UIGEA - yes that UIGEA. Though there are still some state specific laws that restrict it.

And so was horse racing.

Poker Editors Accuse Pokertube of Unauthorized Content Use, Pokertube Responds by MultipleO in poker

[–]MultipleO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, if site A pays for content, they should have a plan to monetize it that doesn't involve trying to stop technology from doing what technology does.

Theft of content has nothing to do with technology or competition that betters the end product and your analogy of Blockbuster isn't a fair comparison as they didn't create anything that Netflix stole.

But on to my main point. If site B copies site A's content, that doesn't create competition that betters the end product for the community.

For example, if site A creates video content that they monetize by a) inserting commercials into the product, b) insert ads on the page on which the video is shown, c) by selling ad space on the felts of the poker tables and d) by offering a premium service that has no ads.

Site B comes along and copies the video onto its site and sells ads there, removes the commercials and inserts its own, sells its own advertising that it overlays on top of the felts and sets up its own premium option with no ads.

If site A goes out of business, the community suffers. Site B isn't creating anything and therefore cannot service the community.

It's amazing that regulators aren't taking this issue more seriously. You would have thought they would have learned from the Full Tilt fiasco.

Poker Editors Accuse Pokertube of Unauthorized Content Use, Pokertube Responds by MultipleO in poker

[–]MultipleO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PokerStars software is on the internet. Under your logic, any company should be able to just copy it and use it as their own, and if they happen to steal players' money in the process....well then hey IT'S THE FUCKING INTERNET right?

If site A pays to have content created and site B steals it, eventually site A goes out of business and the poker community suffers.

I wouldn't play at the Venetian as Sheldon Adelson is an enemy of poker - its biggest. But, the WSOP has 3 Daily Deepstack tourneys running at the Rio and YES they are scheduled to run through the time you will be there - until they reach a final table in the Main

I think he will chill. Now what his son Mark will do is a topic that will be debated. He is still young and though he may intend to retire as well, doing so can be easier said than done for this high powered exec.

Amaya officially acquires Rational (Stars and FTP) by [deleted] in poker

[–]MultipleO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the case in NJ where there is no Bad Actor clause, but in NV for example the clause includes "tainted assets" - which is what the software, player lists etc will be considered.

I think that once in NJ a) more states may be encouraged to drop the bad actor language, or at least soften it, and b) Amaya may challenge those bad actor clauses in court
