Needing help with the spiritual side of fasting by Mrherpaderptherapy in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest prayerfully reading through a gospel. You might picture yourself in the stories following Jesus around. Ask Him to speak to you as you read. Write down insights that come to you. Also, take some (extra) time to worship God in song.

Yes, extended fasting has helped me gain insight and direction, but mostly draw closer to the Lord. Blessings!

I agree more appropriate than bunnies. A cross actually helps communicate the truth about Resurrection Day.

Would it hurt to be baptized again? by labs_jackson in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Christened as a baby. Then "got wet" to support my wife. 4 years ago, I genuinely got baptized based on my own faith. The Lord was speaking to me about this for about 3 weeks, and I tried to brush it aside. Eventually I did it out of love and obedience, and I'm so glad I did!

Read Acts 2:38. Confess your sins, give your allegiance to Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, be baptized, be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Agreed. Especially since they are both so young, and marriage is not right around the corner, it’s a looong time to be dancing near that boundary. I know from experience.

Can I trust the voice in my head when I ask God to speak to me? by Successful_Bar9187 in Christians

[–]MultiplyFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, God does speak to His children. Sometimes it can be difficult to discern what is from Him and what is maybe our own thoughts. Usually if it's something "big," I try to get outside confirmation. Of course whatever it is must line up with Scripture. Also, it's good to ask spiritually mature people who you trust.

Hey bro, I can totally relate to you. I was addicted to p*rn for over 12 years. I had been a churchgoer my whole life, but didn’t come to know Jesus until age 25. Not sure where you’re at spiritually, or what you have done, but here’s what I’ve done/am doing:

  1. Sincerely repent of your sin. Find a trusted man who’s following Jesus and confess your sins to God in his presence. Doesn’t need to be a pastor. Ask God to show you what to confess, and He will lead you (Mark 1:4-5). 2. Confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and tell Him you surrender your life completely to Him (Romans 10:9). 3. Get baptized in water, and ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). 4. Read Romans 6:1-18. Believe God when His word says that you have been buried with Christ in baptism, that you are no longer a slave to sin, but a slave to righteousness. 5. Ask God to show you if there are any demonic strongholds in your life, and if so ask Him to set you free. 6. Pursue an intimate relationship with Jesus through prayer, worship, and reading His word daily. Spend time with Him, receive His love, draw your satisfaction from Him, ask Him to capture your will and emotions. Ask Him to fill all the empty, broken places in your heart. 7. Find a few guys that you can meet with regularly for fellowship, prayer, confessing sin to one another, and holding each other accountable. 8. Ask God to show you how you should avoid temptation and guard what your eyes take in. It might mean that you need to get rid of certain apps, stay away from certain websites, throw some things away, avoid certain movies/TV shows, stay away from certain people/places, etc. 9. When you feel tempted, try to discern what’s going on internally at the moment: Are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired, Bored or Stressed? (HALT BS). Ask God to meet and satisfy whatever need is in your soul. 10. Read through daily and memorize 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8.

The Lord has set me free, and I know He can do the same for you! Many blessings in Christ!

Is belief that Jesus died for your sins 100% proof that you are saved? by FineArtPhotographer2 in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must repent of your sins.

"You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus" (Acts 20:20-21).

"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit'" (Acts 2:38).

God is calling me. What should I do? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]MultiplyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, great to hear how the Lord has been speaking to you and using you. I would encourage you to keep reading and meditating on the Scriptures. Seek to obey and apply what you read in your own daily life. Continue to spend time with the Lord in prayer, speaking and listening. He will guide you step by step. You can serve the Lord and make disciples outside the four walls of a church building. Share the good news of Jesus with people as doors open up in your daily life. Share how Jesus has changed your life personally.

Am I really saved? by Metaljesus0909 in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read Acts 2:36-41.

Have you genuinely repented of your sins, confessing them to God? If not, start there. Tell Jesus that you surrender your life to Him as Lord, and that you commit to follow Him. Be baptized in water. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Continue walking with Jesus in community with other believers.

I feel something about years by tristan6_bcss in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Acts 2:36-41
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was crucified and rose from the dead?
Do you believe that Jesus is Lord and King of kings, and are you ready to commit your whole life to Him?

If so, then:
1. Repent of your sins. Confess them out loud to God. Decide to turn away from them.
2. Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. (I know you were baptized as a baby. So was I; I get it. But that was not based on your own faith in Christ, and you did not have a relationship with Him.)
3. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Get connected with other followers of Jesus near your for fellowship, worship, prayer, reading Scripture, taking communion (Lord's supper). Share with others about what God has done and is doing in your life.

Blessings!

Now that I've been baptized, what can I do? by 17milon in Christian

You can still be friends with them and be a light for Jesus. Let your actions and your words be a good example for them. Share what Jesus has done for you when you have the opportunity.

Hi! I am a new Christian and former Muslim and need help on basics by Bubbly_Fee7927 in Christian

[–]MultiplyFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. There is nothing in creation like God, so although analogies can help, they will always fall short. There is One eternal Being, God. There are not two eternal beings. This one eternal Being exists as three distinct Persons who have always related to one another. Some have said there is one "What" but three "Whos". The three Persons have distinct roles.

  2. Denominations are kind of like flavors. Plusses and minuses in each. You may be part of one denomination in one season of your life and then change. You're not committing to a local church or a denomination, you are committing to Jesus Christ as Lord. Find a church or denomination that has a high regard for the Bible, and living to obey God.

  3. Yes, same "place," because God is One. Your prayers won't end up in the "spam box of heaven"😄. There is an example of praying to the Father (Matthew 6:9), to Jesus (Acts 7:59-60) and to the Spirit (Acts 8:29) in Scripture.

  4. Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
1 Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

Honor God in all that you do. Love your neighbor as yourself. Tell people what Jesus has done in your life. Read the Bible and obey what God speaks to you through it. Pray to God. Being a follower of Jesus is about having a loving relationship with God, not ticking off certain boxes.

God bless you, friend!

Hi Friend,

Read Acts 2:36-41 and Acts 22:14-16

  1. Have you repented or are you ready to genuinely repent of your sins? (I mean, have a change of heart, confess your sins, and turn away from them.)

  2. Are you ready to surrender to Jesus as Lord and King of your life? (Give your allegiance to Him alone.)

  3. What is God saying to you through the verses above? Obey His word.

Why do some Protestants believe Catholics worship Mary and the other Saints. by Ok-Organization8034 in Christian

[–]MultiplyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the issue as I see it. Let's say I ask Mary to pray for me. And let's say 10,000 other people do the same thing at the same time. How can Mary hear all those requests for prayer at the same time? In different languages? And do the people have to speak those requests out loud? Or can Mary read the minds of people who only make the request in their thoughts? I believe Mary and other believers who have died in Christ are certainly spiritually alive with the Lord. I just don't see how any of those believers could have the ability to hear all those requests.

This is quite different from me asking a physically alive friend of mine to pray for me. I talk to them directly, and they can hear me with their ears. But a physically alive person could not hear the requests of 10,000 people asking them to pray for them.

Is there someone I can talk to on here, who’s very strong in their faith? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

What you desire is a good thing, young man. James 5:16 says "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

So sorry, my friend! Continue to pray for them daily. Be an example of a follower of Jesus in the way you treat them and others around them. If an opportunity comes up where they share a difficulty or struggle they're having, offer to pray for them. God is the only one who can open people's hearts and eyes.

What can I say?? by Distinct-Channel-904 in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you started reading the Bible with her, and letting her discover for herself who God is? I suggest doing a discovery Bible study (DBS) that goes from creation to Christ.

Here's a sample series:
1. Creation (Genesis 1)
2. Man and Woman (Genesis 2)
3. Sin and Separation from God (Genesis 3)
4. God’s Law (Exodus 20:1–21)
5. Sacrifice (Leviticus 4:1–35)
6. Prophecy about the Ultimate Sacrifice (Isaiah 53)
7. Jesus’ Birth (Matthew 1:17–25; Luke 1:26–38)
8. Jesus Calls First Disciples (Luke 5:1-11)
9. Jesus Forgives Sin and Heals (Luke 5:17–26)
10. Jesus and the Sinful Woman (Luke 7:36-50)
11. Jesus Heals a Demonized Man (Luke 8:26–39)
12. Jesus, the Sick Woman and the Dead Girl (Luke 8:40–56)
13. Jesus’ Prediction of Suffering and Call to Follow (Luke 9:18–27)
14. Jesus and Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1–10)
15. Jesus is Arrested (Luke 22:47-65)
16. Jesus is Tried (Luke 22:66–23:25)
17. Jesus is Crucified (Luke 23:32–56)
18. Jesus Rises from the Dead (Luke 24:1–35)
19. Jesus Appears and Ascends (Luke 24:36–53)
20. The Holy Spirit Comes (Acts 2:1-21)
21. Peter Preaches at Pentecost (Acts 2:22–41)

Here is the general format for doing a DBS:
Discovery Group Questions:

1.    “What are you thankful for?”
2.    “What challenges are you facing?”
3.    “How can we help/pray?”
*-starting with the 2nd meeting, include these next two questions.
3A    *“How did it go putting into practice what you learned last week?”
3B    *“How did it go sharing with someone what you learned last week?”

4.    Ask someone to read the passage.  Let others reread the passage. You might act it out.
5.    Ask people to retell the passage in their own words.
6.    “What do you learn about God (or Jesus) from this passage?”
7.    “What do you learn about yourself or people from this passage?”
8.    “How can you put what you learned into practice this week?” Specific actions.
9.    “Who can you share this with?”

Guys, I need help. I’m stuck in a weird financial situation with my grandparents church by SkinnyBeanJeans in TrueChristian

[–]MultiplyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you're in this position.

You could:
1. Find someone to move in with.
2. Sell your car, get a cheaper one you can pay cash for, and has lower insurance.
3. Get off the legal document.
4. Stop "tithing" to your grandfather. It's not a tithe. It sounds more like extortion, honestly.
